Wow. Just a day after Roland released their first fully analog SE-02 hardware synthesizer as part of the Boutique range, potentially primed as a Minimoog-style clone killer, they've just come out with a re-issue of the vintage D-50.
Yes, the classic D-50 from the 80s, the synth that "helped to define the sound of the late 80’s with its instantly recognizable mix of sampled attacks and synthesized sustaining waveforms (that’s LA!) plus chorus, reverb, and EQ. It’s the basis of classic tracks in a wide range of genres including Synth Pop, New Wave, New Jack and R&B, plus countless film scores."
Sadly it's not a reissue in hardware form, but is part of the Roland Cloud (software all the way). Here's some more details and spec from Roland on their new D-50 synth plugin:
With the new Roland D-50 DCB Software Synthesizer, Roland Cloud subscribers can have the iconic sound of LA in a powerful plugin, which perfectly recreates this legendary synth down to the subtlest of nuances!
Price: (part of the Roland Cloud subscription, from $19.95 a month).
