A blank canvas can be a daunting place to start but with this video from Matt Hepworth you'll see that getting up and running in Cubase can be easier than you might have thought.

Cubase is one of the most powerful DAWs around as well as having the distinction of having been one of the first ever created. Now at version 9 it's more powerful than ever! But what if you're new to the platform? Luckily, Cubase expert Matt Hepworth is here to share his years of experience and start you from the very beginning with this video on where to start when thinking about building a track.

There are various ways to proceed depending on what kind of music you are making. Maybe you need to get your drummer to lay down a ghost drum track. Or if you're working alone, you could start with a MIDI piano part or perhaps a simple guitar line. Matt shows you how to set up a project for tasks like these, with practical examples of where to look to load tracks, templates and presets. Check out the rest of the course for much more on the core essentials of Cubase 9!
