Korg's Gadget sequencer for Mac, PC and iOS is a fun and powerful way to make beats, record guitars and put tracks together. Here are two videos to get your skills up to speed.

Gadget was always a fun iOS sequencer but since version 3 crossed over to the desktop, it's now a powerful and intuitive music production platform with features like audio recording and looping, a host of cool instruments and even the ability to use the Gadgets as plug-ins inside other DAWs. Here are two videos to get you started, and then take your skills to the next level.

Gadget 101: Absolute Beginner's Guide

This course by Hollin Jones begins by looking at the basics: you learn how to set up your preferences, how to navigate the interface, and how to save your projects locally or to the clouds. As, you start working with the various gadgets, you discover how fun it is to record and edit MIDI and audio with Gadget. Next thing you know, you’ll be ready to sequence and mix your first song using Gadget’s built-in instruments, drum machines and effects!

The course concludes by explaining how to export your final arrangement as a stereo file … or even as an Ableton Live project or as a MIDI file if you want to edit it further in another DAW.

In this video you'll learn how to add and play a Gadget using your MIDI keyboard or other input device.

Gadget 201: Make Dance Music With Gadget

Beginning with a tour of Gadget’s interface, Nigel explores all the basics: sorting and selecting gadgets, zooming, setting the tempo, assigning MIDI CC, saving projects, etc. Next, he builds the foundation of a track by tweaking and layering kick drums and adding other elements to create a full pattern. From there, he explains how to enhance your beat with an external drum loop, and how to make it follow the tempo of your project.
