Automate audio inserts in Cubase 6.
I want to automate a delay insert on a midi track to turn on in certain parts of a song, and off in others. I have tried write enabled recording, and turning it off and on, but that doesnt work, and i cannot figure out how else to do it. Is there a way to automate insert functions manually by drawing in functions, or at least by write recording and performing the function while the song plays? I was able to do this easily in reason, but I haven't been able to figure it out in cubase.

A delay effect, like most time-based effects, is better utilized on an FX Channel Track. Plus, the specific advantage for you would be the automation of the audio track send. First, add an FX Channel Track with a delay effect (like Mono Delay) to your project. Then configure the delay parameters as you wish, but always make sure the mix control is set to 100% wet. Then assign that FX Channel Track to one of the eight sends on the audio (or instrument) track and make sure you turn up the send level. Then enable the read and write automation buttons on that track, start playback, and turn the send enable button on and off when you want the delay effect to operate. A very short video (without audio) of the automation of an FX Channel Track can be seen here: http://youtu.be/vK5lQz_HXsU This video shows the send automation being written, then being played back. You can view the automation data by opening the automation lane of the audio (or instrument) track and choosing Sends: X - Enable parameter. (X = the send number [1 through 8] to which you've assigned the delay effect.) MattLTH
