    20 seconds silence...
Hi folks. I've been trying all morning to bounce some short excerpts of a long piece. I created a new file so I could chop the long piece up into one minute segments. I select only the regions I want bounced, hit the usual settings, and it looks as if all has gone well. When I open one of the short pieces in ITunes, the segments are the correct length, but there's about 20 seconds of silence at the beginning, so my selected section only fades in after that, and cuts out abruptly (and prematurely) at the one minute mark. Any thoughts?

Hi Sammydave, Maybe you had Cycle Mode turned on ? If the Cycle Mode function is active, the start and end positions of the bounce will match those of the locator. Before bouncing, check the "Start" and "End" fields of the Bounce Window to make sure they match those of the regions you want to bounce. Christian

Hi Sammy, I've heard of this bug very recently. A few other users have described it exactly as you have - with about 20 seconds silence preceding the start of your bounce. As of yet, I haven't come across a fix... In the meantime can you let us know exactly which version of Logic, and OS X you are running and any updates you may have installed recently. Also, what is your audio interface - and any 3rd party plug-ins and hardware you may be using. Cheers Rounik

a couple more questions: are you bouncing from 1 1 1 1 every time? What happens if you try bouncing from a different start point? As a workaround, you could select the region and choose File > Export... This will print to file your plug-in effects but won't print any automation... Cheers Rounik

Even without a clear answer, I love that I have responses in less than an hour! I have checked the beginning and end points, and the cycle mode, but nothing out of ordinary. I run Logic 8.02 (1502.22 - is this how recent updates are identified?), on an IMac 1.6 PPC G5 (pre-Intel), OSX 10.4.11. I use an M-Audio Firewire 410 interface. The idea of using File>Export wouldn't work for this project; I've used automation to fade each section in and out.

And I just tried moving the regions around and bouncing from a different point, but same thing still happens. This is especially odd, as I successfully bounced some other files last night. How do I find out when an update has been downloaded? Does Software Update keep a log?

Okay, I just tried a different file, and it worked fine. The only difference I can see is this successful one is all software instruments, while the problem one is all audio regions.

Hi again, Do you have muted regions in your project ? Also try to bounce your project in realtime instead of offline. This way you can check where and why you have silence in your bounced file. To verify is you have the latest Logic version, go to Logic Pro > About Logic Pro... version should be 8.0.2 Christian

Another question... does this happen with every region you try to bounce from that project? Rounik
