Where do I place midi files I bought?
Just bought some midi files and haven't been able to find out exactly where to place the files. Thanks. Peace...

Hi Champ Tokesalot, Do you mean where to place the MIDI files on your HD? Create a folder in a location of your choice and you can place them wherever you like, it won't affect Logic. To bring a MIDI file in to Logic you can drag it in directly on to a software instrument track. Load up an instrument of your choice and you'll be able to hear that instrument playing the MIDI track. You probably mean you bought some .MIDI files, or downloaded them from some MIDI sites, right? Rounik: Can't we also do File->Import?

Yes, you can. When you import MIDI files via File > Import... Logic creates a new software instrument track and loads an EXS24 piano on the track by default. When you drag a MIDI file onto the Arrange from the Finder, no new track is created and no new instrument is loaded. Also, you can import multiple MIDI files by dragging them into the Arrange... unfortunately, they will sit on top of each other on one track. Both methods are good depending on what you want to achieve. Cheers Rounik

Here's the fastest way to get started: Drag the midi file from the finder window and drop onto GarageBand's arrange area. GarageBand will assign all the instruments to tracks and read the tempo (something that Logic doesn't do). Then save and close the file. Open the GarageBand file in Logic and everything will work fine. I still do this sometimes to check tempos. Let the learning begin! B.O.B.

Thanks for all of your help. I put it in a folder next to may audio samples on my hard drive. Works fine. Peace... C.
