Logic 9 upgrade problems
I installed everything fairly smoothly except the first time when it failed half way through installing the 1st audio content disc and then the second time around which was successful it never asked me to install audio content 1 and 2. So I'm wondering if that info was ever written. The other issue is logic is now not reading my audio interface so I think my settings have been shifted. Recently I upgraded from tiger to snow leopard so this may be causing the settings scramble. Any ideas? Thanks Alex

Hi Alex, I'm not sure I fully understand the issue... are you missing content? The upgrade install might not take as long you think as Logic Pro 9 shares much of the same extra content as Logic Pro 8. As for the audio interface. What is your audio interface? Have you checked you have the latest SL compatible drivers from the manufacturers website? Does your audio interface appear int he Devices drop down menu in Logic Pro > Preferences > Audio? Cheers Rounik

I may be missing content since it never asked me to install audio content 1 and 2 during the installation. I guess I could do that part over later to make sure I have everything. My interface is Mbox pro 2. It is not showing now in that drop down menu. I didn't change anything in my setup besides software.

Hi Alex, I would contact M-Audio.com and ask if the MBox Pro 2 is actually Snow Leopard compatible and whether they have Snow Leopard drivers available. As for the installation... yes, I would try installing. But one question... How did you install SL? Did you upgrade your system by inserting the disc and installing over your system, or did you wipe your system and do a clean install? Cheers Rounik

I installed SL by installing disc and then installing over the system. Since I had tiger I had to do Leopard first and then SL. I really hope I don't need drivers for the Digi Mbox Pro 2 because this whole upgrade has been alot more difficult than what I expected.

Hi Alex, I think getting drivers for Mbox Pro 2 from M-Audio/Digi will help your system. I know there were documented issues with SL and Mbox Pro 2 back in September... this being due to there not being updated drivers released by Digi. Hopefully they have now updated their drivers... Do contact them - I couldn't seem to find the info on the Digi/Avid/M-Audio websites... I can't speak for every machine, but in my experience it's a good idea to backup your system before performing an upgrade of any software - especially the Operating System! I prefer to erase & re-format the Mac and install the new OS from scratch. This way there is no reason why you would have to install Leopard before installing Snow Leopard too. Do you have a backup of your Mac from before you performed the upgrade from Tiger? Thanks Rounik

Yeah I can not find a way to get in touch with support. The phone number is all automated and will only help if it is within the 30 day complimentary help. Other than that you have to pay for phone support. There is no email support either just forums. Unfortunately I did not back anything up and there were not many people to help me out with real advice like yours ha. I should have come here first. I was also anxious to just install Logic 9 which I thought would be a piece of cake until I found out I had to upgrade my whole system.

H Alex, Does this link help: http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?navid=3&langid=100&eid=2724&categoryid=36 & this (look under compatibility alerts): http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?navid=54&itemid=23954&langid=1 unfortunately, Digidesign don't have a great record at getting driver updates for a new OS out quickly. Oh, this link may help too: http://na2.salesforce.com/secur/login_portal.jsp?orgId=00D400000007GIT&portalId=060400000000a8s So, the best thing to do when using Digi based products is to not upgrade OS's until 1. You have a clone or backup of your system. 2. You are sure that Digi have released drivers for you hardware. ----- Well, believe me when I say that although I always talk about backing up to everyone I know... I get caught out occasionally - btu it's the best way to learn. Although this situation will not feel great - there are ways to resolve it. Best thing to do now would be to roll back to Leopard (you will be able to use Logic and Pro Tools M-powered/Mbox Pro 2) manually backup all your important files to an external hard drive and/or DVD. You should do this anyway to keep your data/projects safe. That extra 10 or 30 minutes a week spent backing up data can save hours (and hair ;) in the long run! OK. I'll stop lecturing you now. First contact Digi tech support and see if they can help to resolve this issue. If not... 1. Backup important data to an external drive. 2. If you have any personal loops, presets, key commands in Logic then transfer them to the external drive. 3. Double-check you have everything you want/need backed up.... if possible transfer the ENTIRE contents of your system to another external HD or partition on the same external drive. Rule #2 = you can never back up too many times! 4. Insert the Leopard disc. Run install but instead choose to erase the Macs hard drive. 5. Then choose to install Leopard from the disc. 6. Once done. Update to 10.5.8 and install Logic 9. Install any drivers that might be required for the Mbox Pro 2 for leopard. You should be good to go now. I would recommend contacting and talking to a tech support guy/gal about the Mbox Pro 2 before doing any of my suggestions above! Best Rounik

Thanks for the links Rounik. Right now I am downloading one of the updates but it seems that I need to have Protools 8 Le for it to work according to the info. I still have 7.3 since I'm a Logic user. I'm going to see if I can get on the line with Apple for some Logic support to see what options they may present. My projects and files are backed up on an external so I am good on that front however I don't have a clone of my system. I have yet to backup my backups ha. Great advice, I will see what I could do in the next days. Alex

No probs Alex! I forgot to mention a good app to clone a system is Carbon Copy Cloner. It's free and I've found it reliable. Hope that helps! Rounik
