Creating the Shepard Tone in Logic Pro
I'm trying to create the Shepard Tone in Logic Pro using pitch bend but can't seem to avoid a noticeable hiccup when it cycles back. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shepard_tone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfJa3IC1txI Maybe there is another way to do this that I haven't considered but I'm trying it with each track containing an 8ve (i.e. 110hz, 220hz, 440hz) pitch bending up (or down) an 8ve. The highest track 8ve has fade out and the lowest track 8ve has a fade in. I realize this is kind of a weird question for the forum but thought I would see what is suggested. Thanks. Ray

Hi Ray, Welcome to the forums! Hmmm... this rings a bell. aHa! It's all about using the sine sweep in the test oscillator. Check out this thread on creating the shepard tone in Logic: http://www.macprovideo.com/forum/logic/tips-n-tricks&id=12096&sid=#12108 Hope that helps Rounik

Thanks for the reply and the link to the related post. I agree about the Test Oscillator. It should be perfect for the job at hand but I can't get this Test Oscillator to behave. I try to program sweeps and type in 440 Hz as a start and 880 Hz and it changes the values ( 430, 870)when I hit return. So if I'm trying to keep 8ve sweeps consistent, it doesn't let me. I am definitely giving up on using pitch bend to pull this off. Thanks again!

Hi Ray, I wish the Test Oscillator could be fine tuned! I've replied in the other thread to Doug in the hope we would be kind enough to share his project with us... and help us avoid doing the sticky maths work ;-) Cheers Rounik

Hi Ray, Doug has kindly posted a link to his project and explained how he created the shepard tone effect. You can find it here: http://www.macprovideo.com/forum/logic/tips-n-tricks&id=12096&sid=15#last :) Rounik
