Re: bounce In place, offline and r...
Hi Futant, Well, this is interesting. I did the test using the ESM and automating the cuttoff. I bounced the region in 4 different ways: 1. Bounce in Place (BiP) 2. File > Bounce in realtime (Bounce realtime) 3. Record in Logic using a Bus as an input for an Audio Track (record via bus) 4. File > Bounce offline (Bounce offline) When zooming in to almost sample level numbers 1, 3 and 4 are identical... #2 as you find is different. First off the start point of the waveform is slightly delayed compared to the others... by less than a tick - but it is visible: Second the waveform of #2 is slightly different (again only noticeable when zoomed in very close): I'm using Logic 9.1.1, 32-bit, built-in audio, OSX 10.6.2. In theory, I thought the realtime bounce would be the same as recording to an audio track through a Bus (as the process is also in realtime)... but perhaps the realtime bounce is less accurate? What do you think? Rounik

Full instructions are here: http://www.macprovideo.com/forum/general/general-general&id=15243 I've also found that the bounce in realtime region is delayed by exactly 5 samples. :) R

Interesting. Why do you think this 5 samples delay occurs? ok so here are a couple of screenshots. 1st one to show the automation and resulting waveforms: 2nd image just to show BiP vs realtime zoomed a bit more (I moved the offline down because it was same as BiP):

thing is the realtime bounce sounds more like what I hear in arrange.

Thanks for posting the pics. What I find very interesting is that the Bus recording and realtime bounce look pretty similar while both offline bounces look identical to each other... Not sure, why the attack of the waveform for me is delayed by 5ms... I haven't found any significant audible differences between my bounces. Yours look to be very different. Have you definitely bypassed/removed the plugins from the Stereo Output when performing the offline bounces? I think this is one to give feedback to Apple on: http://www.apple.com/feedback/logicpro.html Might be a good idea to provide a link to this thread for them... :) Rounik

Hi Rounik, Thanks for all the help. Seeing as there is a difference in our results I am a bit worried. Would it be possible to send you a small test project I just made, just to see if bouncing the same thing has different results on our systems? it's only 3.7 mb. This time using es1 in stereo.

Hi Futant, I doubt this is a project specific issue - but if it is then we'll find out this way :) compress & upload the project to sendspace or somewhere similar, save the link. Then send a note to support with my name in the subject and the link to download the project and I'll pick it up :) Cheers Rounik

If it's ok i'll just post the link here in case anyone else wants to check it (e.g apple support) http://www.sendspace.com/file/uowyx5 the project contains bounces I did but If you could bounce the midi and compare it to the audio I bounced that would be great! sometimes the audio looks the same but scrolling along highlights the differences. Many Thanks!

Thanks. I downloaded it and tried it out and get the same results as you. Seems like Logic's audio engine uses different algorithms to calculate the boucing process. To be honest, I don't hear any difference in this test using good pair of headphones... Do you? Makes me wonder if this is a waveform overview issue? (Although refreshing the waveform overview doesn't alter it...) Interesting how the audio waveform looks the same for the first note(s) and then becomes different... Thanks Rounik
