Changing the key in the middle of song?
How do I change the key or create modulation in the key? Do I go to the global area, I don't see key changing here. Thanks!! Roz

Hi Roz, You can change the key of a project at any Bar, beat, measure. Open the Global Tracks area and open the Signature global track. Use the pencil tool (or right click using the pointer tool) to create a key or time signature change where you click. Hope that helps Rounik

This is most helpful Rounik! Thanks so much. The Logic Pro 8 is actually becoming very understandable and easier than I thought. I guess it was the logical step up for Logic Express 7, though the new look scared me a lot. Roz

My pleasure Roz! I remember transitioning from Logic 7 to 9. At the time I was super comfortable and confident in L7... took me a while to get completely happy in L8 and I still have fond memories of L7. Having said that, I last launched Logic 7 almost 2 years ago and was relieved to be back in Logic 8 the next day! ... Logic 8 certainly is more logical than previous versions! I really should find my Logic 5 discs one day and compare the differences between 5 and 9! :) Rounik

Hi, I went to the signature track and all I could find was meter designations and no ability to change the key. In the tempo track is the same line that I used to use to alter the key by creating a dot and moving up the line. There is no line like this in the signature area. Any suggestions? Thanks Roz

Hi Roz, Here is a step-by-step (with a couple of alternatives thrown in): 1. Click on the disclosure triangle next to the word Global Tracks above the Track List. 2. You should see a selected array of Global Tracks available. However, like normal tracks they can be expanded or resized. Either click on the disclosure triangle next to the Signature track: or position your mouse cursor over the horizontal boundary lines between the global track. You'll notice your mouse cursor turns into a resize tool. Drag to resize the Global Track: 3. To create a key change, right-click anywhere in the Key lane to see this menu: (Alternatively, use the Pencil tool and click in the Key lane.) Choose "Create Key change" and you should see the Key Signature dialog window appear: 4. Once you've selected the key, click OK. And here we have the Key change in the project: btw, you can customise the Global Tracks to view by right-clicking (control-clicking) on any Global Track to see this menu, where you can choose which ones to view and which ones to hide: Hope this helps Rounik p.s. There is a transposition Global track where you can transpose your project as opposed to change the Key. This might be what you were originally looking for?

This is perfect. Thank you so much Rounik. When I start working on this today I'm sure I will do fine. I presume that if I want to transpose in the middle of the song through several keys that I just go through this same process. Is that true? Roz

Hi Roz, No problem! Sure you can do the same process for transposing (in the Global Tracks area). :) Rounik

Okay, great...I am now able to change the key various times throughout song. However, I hear no change at least while listening to the apple loops either audio (blue) or software instrument loops (green). Does the key change only through my recorded audio through using the mic or midi? Let me know. Thanks again! Roz
