Missing Impulse Responses in Logic 9
I've used Logic for years, but now, suddenly, many of my factory .aif Impulse Resposes are gone. The ones that I saved with projects, or created myself are still on my computer, but most of the factory .aif files are gone. What's the best way to get them back? I hope I don't have to install Logic 9 again! Thanks, Judy

Hi Judy, The Impulse response files (with an Sdir extension) can be found in: /Library/Audio/Impulse Responses/Apple/ Are they there on your system? How do you know they are missing? Is there some error message when using Space Designer? Thanks Rounik

Hi Rounik, The Sdir files are ther in the impulse Responses folders, but none of the .aif files, and those are the ones that are missing. When using S pace Designer, a browse window opens and says please locate Moving Space 4.aif, or whatever the name of the missing file is. Judy

Hey Judy, hmmmm... that's interesting... Do you have Spotlight disabled by any chance? Thanks Rounik

hmmm.... Could you try loading up a couple of space designer presets and tell me the exact file missing (and which presets). I'll try this out on my system. Thanks Rounik

I tried 04Warped Effects/01Drone tones/Atonal Machine, and it asked for Drum Tone 29.aif 04 Warped Effects/02 Moving Spaces/Alternate Swells and it asked for Moving Space 4.aif 04 Warped Effects/03 Textures/Abstract Colors and it asked for Texture 38.aif 04 Warped Effects/04 Drum Transformers/Barrel Bottom and it asked for Drum Transformer 5.aif It seems that all the missing files I've looked for are in the Warped Effects group. I really appreciate your help. I've used these effects before and never had this trouble. Judy

Hi Judy, Yes, they work fine on my system... Just to check one last time before I offer a possible solution... Can you check again in: HD//Library/Audio/Impulse Responses/Apple/Warped/ If you do a spotlight search for "Drum Transformer 5.aif" do you get any results? OK... Let's look at a possible solution then... I would insert the Logic install DVD and start an install, but choose "Customise" - I'm sure you don't want to re-install everything! From the customise settings choose only the settings... Hmmm... I might have to check this out myself when I have a moment tomorrow. I believe there is an app out there that will extract only specified content from an install disc... I just need to track it down. Another solution... (if you have a clone of your drive is to simply copy the missing folders back to their original location)... or if you have a Time Machine backup you'll find the file there too. One last Question: Was there anything you installed around or before the time that you began getting this error? Thanks Rounik

Wow, interesting. I only have 01 Large Spaces, 02 Medium Spaces, 03 Small Spaces and 04 Surround Spaces in my ... Impulse Responses/Apple folder. Spotlight doesn't find Drum Transformer 5.aif. And the only "Drum Transformer" files it finds are ones that I stored with my Logic Projects. There are none in my Library. I did install a SonicBirth AU instrument at around this time, and put some Prosoniq Impulse Responses in the Impulse Responses folder (-but that was after I had the .aif files go missing). Unfortunately I only back up my data files, not my Library files, so I'd really be interested in the app that will extract only specified content.

Hi Judy, Great! I've found it! It's called Pacifist: http://www.charlessoft.com/ I haven't used it personally (never had the need)... but I've had good reports about this from many Mac users. Let me know how you get on. :) R
