Assume the following simple scenario: mix channel 1: Only drums mix channel 2: Some synth sounds Master channel: Has a multimeter inserted Now, as I only let drums through to the master the correlation meter shows 1, or very close to it. As I then also allow the synths through on the master my correlation falls to about 0.7 or 70%. QUESTION: Should you also try to get the synths towards 1, via, say gain plug/directional mixer and/or other tools? Is 100% correlation on the master the "prefect" way to do your final mix? Hi Chord123 Firstly, what does it sound like? Awesome? Then no problem More importantly, what does it sound like with the drums? Monitoring the phase of the synth by itself won't give you an accurate picture of the phase relationship for the whole tune. Synths actually crate their sounds by changing the phase relationships between the oscillators -for example the 'fatness' you get in Unison mode is a result of the oscillators randomly going in and out of phase. So 70% is probably pretty good! There is more info about the multimeter in Steve H's Logic 401:Logic's Mastering Toolbox tutorial - in his words 'anything in the red is problematic'. But the best thing you could do is trust your ears, if it sounds goo, it works! Hope that helps! Cheers Hamish Hope that helps

Dear Hamish & Rounik, Thanks for your answers. I actually, checked it against a few tracks that in my opinion seem to be very well mastered (CDs), and as you both state, I noticed that the correlation on a few of the tracks were sometimes down in the 30-40% range at times, but still sounded good. Finally, I still, really, really, really, want to "solve" that Ian Carey slap/vibrato funky house bass. However, I will need assistance from the MPV community :) Today I watched Steve H's Logic 103: SOUND, and in chapter 5 at about 2 min and 30 sec Steve is on to something that, I think could at least be a good starter/using vibrato and 20 cycles/sec. I see the LFO and rate button on the efm 1 synth, but what if you have a good slap bass from another third party synth or could you produce that Ian Carey bass sound by only using Logics synths and plugins? Please, could we attack this, it would be excellent learning for everyone:) Best/Chord123

Have you watched Richard Lainhart's tutorial synthesis series - Analog Synthesis in a Digital World and Advanced Synthesis? I'd recommend these as essential viewing for anyone who wants to learn how to synthesise sounds of all kinds. The techniques he uses turn up in dance music all the time. H

Dirty Old Ann, Turn Me On (Full Vocal Club Mix) 3. Bon Garcon, Freek U (Ian Carey Remix) 4. Perhaps also: Josh The Funky 1, Universal Sound (Ian Carey Remix) Further, you can also find two examples in the Vengeance-sound sampling (audio) libraries (that I bought), namely: VFH2: Vengeance Future House vol2. 1. 130 BPM Comboocha Kit, Melody 3 (7 seconds long) 2. 128 BPM Doubleride Kit, Melody 4 (7 seconds long) These only contain the bass and are very clean, so probably a place to start to figure out how to replicate it the "midi way". Hi folks I've listened to the tunes and have worked out some midi regions that are a pretty close match to the basslines. As for the bass sounds... haven't started on those, but I'll post the midi regions later tonight - then anyone on the the forum who wants to can have a go at making some fat bass with Logic's plugins! :) H
