Subwoofer and Apogee Duet...
Hi guys! Anyone know how you might go about adding a subwoofer to your rig if you only use an Apogee Duet to channel your sound in and out of the computer? The Duet has the two "out" cables already going to the monitors, so I'm just curious how you'd do this. Thanks! Jamie

Hi Jamie, Which sub are you thinking of using? If it's a recent model then you can connect the stereo outs from the Duet straight into the Sub, which should have L and R outputs to go to your monitors. :) R

Subwoofer and Apogee Duet...
Hey Rounik! I was thinking about the KRK 10-S to match the monitors I have. I didn't realize you could pass the Left and Right out through the sub and then send them to the monitors! Haha...I never really pay much attention to that kind of stuff so I wasn't sure if I needed any new pre-amps or anything that had more outputs... Thanks!

Hi Jamie, No probs! Does the K10s have the correct ins and outs? I couldn't seem to find that info online... :)

Subwoofer and apogee duet
Yeah Rounik! I saw a few spec pics on eBay and it looks to have all the usual connector ports. XLR in and out, TSR and RCA as well. I'd probably go with the XLR since I'm planning on getting a balanced duet breakout box to make the monitors even more true. A sub would complete the set. KRK is even coming out with a room correction system soon, too! Jamie

Hey Jamie, I wrote to KRK yesterday to double-check and here is the response: "Hello, Yeah! the 10s has the built in crossover. That setup sounds good to me. Thanks," So that's good news :) As for room correction. Great stuff, Rounik! I read this last night in bed and was intrigued by the plug-in. I am in the process of slowly but surely treating my room with homemade traps and wall-panels made from bedding egg-crates, some felt and poster board. Actually, now that I think of it, this would be a perfect opportunity to make more of those since I'm taking time off after my debacle this weekend! (For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, check the Ableton threads...) The traps seem to work quite well considering how crude they are in construction. There is noticeably less flutter (though the flutter I do hear is much higher in frequency) and the bass response has improved quite a bit. I think if I can cover each of the corners and about 30% of the wall space, I'll be in good shape to make the room as true as it can be... I'll get some pics posted when I get a chance... Jamie

Egg boxes on the wall? ;-) Actually sounds quite cool! Whenever you have pics I'd be interested to see them! Take care, Rounik

Yes! These are the treatment panels I built using the stuffing, some felt and a poster board. This is the stuffing... Of course, "egg crates" are now manufactured to NOT look like egg crates, but the term used to describe them still hangs on like a bad odor. Oh by the way, I ordered some Auralex treatment from Musicians Friend today, in addition to a balanced Duet Breakout box. The Auralex was a steal at $59 for 32 1x1 pieces (I got 2 packages), and am looking forward to having balanced output from my monitors, at last. Question...is a TRS to XLR conversion cable ok to use or should I contact the company and get a "sex change"? That's where they change the outputs to accommodate folks who want complete consistency, I guess. Apparently I can get XLR outputs on the balanced version. What do you think, Rounik? Jamie

Hey Jamie, Thanks for the pics! The egg crates look really good - you're right... and even better when you've got them hanging on the wall!! That does sound like a good deal on the Auralex too! Would be interested to know your opinions on the Duet Breakout box when you've had a chance to put it through it's paces. This is a good question. I've always preferred going xlr to xlr when possible, but I think the trs to xlr should be ok... though I haven't tried it out myself. :)
