    Can't hear midi keyboard
How can I hear my midi keyboard (piano)while I am recording with the effects I want, like bass? All I hear is the piano.

Couple of questions for you... 1) what's the brand and make of your keyboard? 2) how are you currently listening to the sound? Out of the keyboard directly, or through Logic?

The midi input keyboard is a Yamaha Clavinova. It is connected with the midi output jack to a TubeAmp Studio preamp. The output of that is to an input on a Firestudio Mobil, which is connected to the Mac with a firewire. I am trying to listen to the output through Logic (through the Firestudio Mobil). I am trying to create a bass track and I want to hear it as a bass I've selected as a plug-in when I set up the midi track

Do you mean that the MIDI output of the Clavinova is connected to the input of the Firestudio? I'm asking because there is no MIDI input on the TubeAmp, at least not on the product specs I saw. Also, could you post back with which model of Clavinova you have?

Here's my set up On the Yamaha CVP 96 The regular audio out goes to the input of the TubeAmp, and that output goes to an input on the back of the Firestudio so I can play the piano, as a piano, through Logic. Then, the midi output of the Yamaha is plugged into the midi input of the Firestudio so I can play the Yamaha as a midi input. I had it working once, and when I played/recorded, it sounded like a bass. But now it just sounds like a piano and it is not very inspiring during the record process. I can get it to record midi events, but it only sounds like a bass when I play it back.

Thanks for posting back with more details. Just one thing before I try and answer your question... You're running your piano into two different preamps: the Tube Pre and then the Firestudio. I'm not saying it's wrong, but it's a bit unusual to do that. So Im curious to know if you're using the tube aspect of the TubeAmp to achieve a particular sound. Glad we straightened that out about where the MIDI was going too. I have the feeling that you don't have software monitoring enabled in Logic. Seems that you can record audio just fine, but you can't hear it "through" Logic in real time. So go to Prefs > Audio > Devices and see if software monitoring is enabled. But... I have the feeling that you have a feature in your FireStudio called (something like) direct monitoring. And if that's on, you'll potentially get either a nasty feedback loop if you turn on software monitoring in Logic (if it's not already on). So before you do anything, look for that "direct monitoring" function in the FireStudio and if it's turned on, turn it off. Only then should you turn on Logic's software monitoring. If none of that proves to be the case, post back and we'll take it to the next step. =Ski=

I thought I had responded to this , but apparently not. Software monitoring is enabled, and I just turn down the monitor speakers to avoid feedback as I don't know how to turn off Direct Monitoring in the Firestudio.

If software monitoring is enabled then you should be hearing your keyboard "through" Logic and whatever effects are on your channel strip. You should also make sure that low latency mode is turned off (if your plugins turn orange while you're in record, you'll know that low latency mode is turned on). But as far as the direct monitoring in your FireStudio, sorry, can't help you there. You'll have to read the manual on that one. But you really shouldn't have both software monitoring AND the FireStudio's direct monitoring function on at the same time.
