Hi! I have a weird problem here. 4 months ago, I got a new Macintosh HD SSD drive. So I decided to install only Logic 9 because I was using it all the time. Now I want to collaborate with one of my friend, which is on Logic 8. So I took my big Logic 8 box and put the dvd in and try to install it..... When you want to choose which program to install from the logic 8 dvd, all the softwares are greyed out. At the end, I want logic 8 and 9 to be installed. I don't want to spend all my evening on this task. Is somebody know what should I do to make the installation of logic 8 possible, even if Logic 9 is installed? I tried to rename logic pro (9) to logic pro 9.app just to see if the installer would unlock logic but no luck.... Thanks! Martin

Hi thejammer, Have you tried exchanging files with your friend using Logic 9 to Logic 8. It should work fine. In fact there should be no need to try installing Logic 8 after you've installed Logic 9 on your system. If you find this doesn't work then you're going to have to manually uninstall Logic 9, then install Logic 8 and then reinstall Logic 9!! First find out if you *really* need to install Logic 8 and then if you do explore a couple of options... - AppZapper: http://www.appzapper.com/ (I've never used it with Logic) - Post back and we'll try and go through the actual files you'll need to manually find and delete. Thanks for your post Rounik! I am sure that files from logic 8 to logic 9 will work. but if I stayed on logic 9 and then create the first project on logic 9 and send it to my friend on logic 8, I don't think it's gonna work. You think it could? We will try this tonight. Martin

No probs Martin! I think it should work ok as long you don't use any Logic 9 specific plugins or features... it's difficult to say as I don't remember testing this out in quite a while... and there have been a fair few updates to Logic since 9 was released. I wonder, what Mac is your friend using? Intel based? Also, if it doesn't work immediately, get your friend to create a simple project in Logic 8 and send it to you. Save a copy (so you can use this as a template later). Open it up in Logic 9 and then make some changes and send it back to him/her. See if this process works. Logic 9 files will read and play back mostly OK in Logic 8. Note that I say "mostly". There can indeed be compatibility problems. I've seen a bunch of these kinds of 9-->8 issues, and they're not always fixable or even explainable! Worst case is that you won't be able to open Logic 9 songs in at at all. You'll get the SBBOD when you try. And other times things'll work fine. Go figure... There are lots of options for being able to install Logic 8 on a Logic 9 system, but they all cost time, money or both. The money part would be to get a second hard drive (i.e., a Voyager HD dock and a raw hard drive), install OSX on that drive, and then install Logic 8. Then you'll have a completely independent Logic 8 system. Another option is to create a bootable clone of your internal drive to a backup drive. Boot from that. Next, delete the Logic 9 app. You may have to delete some package receipts too. But you certainly wouldn't have to delete any Logic content, such as apple loops, sampler instruments, etc. Then install Logic 8, updating to 8.0.2. Then install Logic 9 and update to that to your preferred version. Yeah, it's a lot of work, but that's what it'll take. Some things are worth the effort (whistles...) ;-) Final thought... there's a program called Pacifist which, if my understanding is correct, lets you get around the kinds of restrictions that installers impose (such as your not being able to install Logic 8 on a Logic 9 system). Might be worth checking it out.

Hi! I confirmed that logic 8 can read logic 9 files. But I am sure that Ski is right and I will probably get some problems later. I will uninstall 9, install 7 and 8 and reinstall 9. Thanks for your help! Martin

Do you have any other versions of Logic installed on your system. I can give you advice on what files/folders to remove but it is all dependent on what versions of Logic you have installed.

I had L9,but I don't have it anymore. Now I only have Logic 9 Express on my laptop. Having problems with it,and it was suggested to uninstall,then re-install. That is to maybe have it run right.
