Entering user information
I recently formatted my Mac and installed my Logic 9 upgrade without installing any previous versions. This was suggested by Apple phone support. But every time I open Logic it wants me to enter my user information - serial number and thereafter the Xkey. Does anybody know how can I change that?

Hi Mike, Have you tried rebooting or relaunching the Finder via Apple Menu > Force Quit...

No, how would force quitting Finder help Logic keeping my serial number and xkey info? I'm not quite what it is you want me to do?

Re: Entering user information
to be honest, I'm not sure on the reasons behind this... but my serial no. for Logic got corrupted somehow a few months back and I tried re-launching Logic, etc... Then before I went to dig out my serial no. I went to the Apple Menu and chose Force Quit. From the dialog I selected "Finder" and chose to Force Quit / relaunch. Everything worked fine after that. Basically the Finder is an application that is always running when OS X is running. It is the GUI system that holds, reads, writes, references all the files. To make changes to certain system wide settings in the Unix underpinning of OS X the Finder needs to be reset. Force Quitting Finder does just that. I suspect in my case there was a temporary corruption of the ability of Logic to reference the serial no. - but it worked for me and is a harmless thing to try. Cheers Rounik

Hi Rounik, Thank you for your help. I'm afraid it didn't have any effect to Force Quit Finder.. I guess I have to try to install Logic again and see if that helps. Mike

Re: Entering user information
Hi Mike, Try this before before reinstalling. It could be something associated with Logic's preference files. Make a backup of your Key Commands file before doing this (Go to the Logic Pro Menu > then Preferences > Key Commands. Then go to Options > Export Key Commands. Save a copy to your Desktop. We will import this file back in after creating a new preference file). Go to the following destination: Macintosh HD > Users > username > Library > Preferences Then move the following folders to the Trash: com.apple.logic.pro.cs.plist com.apple.logic.pro.LSSharedFileList.plist com.apple.logicpro.plist When you relaunch Logic it will recreate these preference files. See if the User information box comes up again now. Afterwards you can import your key commands back in by going to: Logic Pro Menu > Preferences > Key Commands. Then go to Options > Import Key Commands. And navigate to the Key Commands file you saved on the Desktop. Let us know how it goes. Hopefully this will sort it out.

And if that doesn't work here's the last thing I know of to try before re-installing... Move these files to a safe place on your desktop or wherever you feel is a safe: Library/Application Support/Pro Apps/Logic Studio System ID Library/Application Support/Pro Apps/ProAppsSystemID Restart your Mac from the Apple menu and launch Logic. If requested enter your serial number... Let us know how you get on. Rounik

Hi Gary & Rounik, I had hoped to write you with positive news to my problem, but sadly no. Gary, I've looked through preferences and even searched for these files via Finder, but they are not to be found on my computer anywhere? There are actually no files starting with com.apple.logic.pro or anything similar for Logic, but I am still able to start it up. Rounik, Moving the two files from the library didn't help either I'm afraid. I moved them to an external hard drive, but Logic only replaced them the next time I opened it. I am wondering if my Logic install disc is able to "repair" the application or if I have to delete everything and start over? Mike

Hi Mike, Sorry to hear you are still having problems. Strange you can't find either the files Rounik or I mentioned. Make sure you are looking in the right Library folders? Rounik's files are in the Main Library (/Library/Application Support/ProApps) and the ones I mentioned are in the user Library (Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences)

Hi Gary, I had no problems finding the files Rounik were mentioning, but it didn't have any effect moving them though. In respect to the files you wanted me to find, there is no library folder in my user folder. This is located when I choose Macintosh HD, then I can choose Library/Preferences. But the files you told me to find are not there. All my Native instrument, Microsoft office, etc. logfile and plist files are located there, so I would imagine I'm at the right place. As I wrote before, I tried to locate the files by searching for them via the Finder search function, without any luck.. I am still open for suggestions if you have any? Mike
