Hi nevrotiq, Telefon Tel Aviv are a great band with great programming skills. They make use of stutter edit style drum programming. Take a look at the following articles in our Hub section that may assist you with creating similar style beats: http://www.macprovideo.com/hub/tag/stutter-edit

Thanks, I found about Stutter Edit a few minutes after I wrote here. Anyway, can you also give me some hints to get that ethereal pads and stuff? I find Reaktor's Metaphysical Function pretty interesting!

Do you have Absynth or Razor? They are great synths for 'ethereal' sounds. We also have some amazing tutorials on both these synths. I have Komplete 8 (not Ultimate though). Absynth is very nice and your tutorial was really helpful to get started with it. I was just wondering if there were some other Reaktor ensembles that could help me getting that kind of sounds (I haven't Razor since I'm on standard K8, maybe I'll buy it in the future).

Aside from Razor, I haven't used Reaktor in awhile. But I remember getting nice pads from the ensemble, Carbon. What DAW are you using?

I'm on Logic Pro 9 and Ableton Suite 8, this last one mainly for live purposes rather than for composing.

The ES2 and Sculpture are also great for rich sounding pads. Steve Horelick has a great tutorial where he builds ups rich sounding pads using Logic's synths and plugins: http://www.macprovideo.com/tutorial/logic304 Creating rich sounding pads is a combination of the synths and the effects applied to them. Delays, reverbs, and modulation effects such as chorus, phaser and flanger really make a huge difference to the end result.
