copying of external audio samples in song back up
I'm looking for the easiest and most time efficient way to backup songs to an external hard drive. I score music to film & TV and like to keep the 50 or so versions of a particular cue. My question is regarding the copying of the external audio samples (which I usually have a lot of). Let's say each of these songs have most of the external audio samples as the other 49 versions. So what do you think the most efficient way to back up songs and their many versions of the same (or mostly the same) audio samples? If I do a "Save As" and check all the external samples and exs24 samples etc... it will save everything to an Audio Files Folder for that particular version. This would be fine if I had one song or one version of a song, but by the time I do a "save as " to copy all of my versions of one song and it's audio samples... I'll be out of memory! So, I don't really want to use all the extra HD memory creating & re-creating only to have the same audio sample copied and renamed over & over again. It seems logical to have one Audio Files Folder for the lot of them as opposed to one for every song. I tried this but if I do a "Save As" and check all the external samples and exs24 samples - etc... and save it to one folder ...I get this: Example: Audio Files amb__K26_etheral#01.wav, amb__K26_etheral#2.wav, amb__K26_etheral#3.wav ..and so on. I've looked for some type of option in the audio preference folder but I don't see anything and I can't figure out how to get around this memory waste other than deleting the duplicate files manually. It seems like that could be problematic when the song is loading because it will probably not recognize the copied sample files without the #1, #2 ,#3 ect. The only thing I've been able to figure out is to load each song, copy the external audio files to one big folder on the backup HD, then as it's saving and i finds a duplicate, choose the option replace. This works but is very time consuming. Any thoughts of how to make this simpler? Please Help.

Re: copying of external audio samples in song back up
Do you know that Logic 8 makes 10 auto backups of your project ? The backups can be found in the "Project Files Backup" folder in your project folder. In Logic 7, it was possible to set the number of backups but sadly, this option is not available anymore in Logic 8. If you want this option back, you can use this command in the terminal : " defaults write MaxBackupsToKeep x " where x = the number of backups you want. I usually set mine to 30. Hope it helps!
