Strings and other sustained instruments cut out
Does anybody know why when I record any instrument that sustains for a long time it cuts out abruptly in the same part of the song every time? When I just play the sound without recording it it lasts as long as I hold the key but when I record, it cuts out every single time and sounds like I unplugged something. It is becoming frustrating, please help.

Hi fookmar are you using Logic 7 or 8? does this happen in every song or just this particular project? If you draw the MIDI note in the Piano Roll for the length desired does it's sound still cut off? Also, have you got any automation data on the track - that might cut off the sound?

Thanks for the response, I am using Logic 8. I haven't tried another project yet as this is my first and I want to figure out why this is happening. Before using Logic 8 I was using Logic Express 7 and had no problems like this whatsoever. Yes it still does cut out when I use the Piano roll and no I have no automation data on the track. Do you think there is something wrong with this particular project and should try another one? I am under the music for television, radio or film template because I am scoring a short film. I haven't yet imported the film so that wouldn't be a problem. Any ideas?

Hi fookmar Do try it in a different template or an empty project. Can you explain the exact steps you're doing so I can try to recreate this on my system. e.g. instrument/channel strip used etc. Also can you give some more detail on your setup, like OS version, Mac, Logic 8...or 8.0.1, other midi hardware connected etc etc. Cheers Rounik

Hey, I am using a steinway grand piano on channel 9, a yamaha grand piano on 10, an orchestra deep bass on 11 and a cell section on 12. The cello section is the one that cuts out. Occasionally I hear the same kind of clipping from the cello section on the yamaha grand. I am using Mac OS X version 10.5.1 on a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Mac mini. I am also using Logic 8.0.1 with an M-Audio keystation 49e and no audio interface, just using the onboard sound card because I hot swapped the firewire port on my firewire solo and apparently thats a no no. Thats it I think, thanks for the help!

Hi Fookmar, I setup a Music for picture template project with the same/similar instruments as you described. My system is: Mac OS 10.4.10 Logic Pro 8.0.1 Presonus firebox (but i've used core audio to test this too). Oxygen 8 midi controller I didn't know how long your cello sustains for so I made mine sustain for 2 minutes from the beginning of the track till about bar 61. It doesn't cut out for me. Can I suggest that you re-record the part on a new track. I'm concerned that some automation has been drawn on by mistake - check out Hyper Draw on your MIDI region. Also, do try to re-create this track in a new project file. If all this doesn't work and you wan to, you can upload your project to: http://www.sendspace.com and I can take a look at it o determine whether the logic project is ok or not. Cheers Rounik
