I was wondering if anybody had a suggestion as to what external hard drive I should purchase. I am looking for a 500 gig drive and am between the G-Tech G Drive 500gig and the Western Digital My Book Studio Edition 500 gig. Any opinions on whats better?

Hi fookmar, i don't know the g-tec. I have the WD Mybook and a Maxtor. The WD is fine, but it goes to sleep often and there's not a way to control that as far as i know. My Maxtor is good. My partner prefers Lacie's and hers have worked fine - although other's prefer not to use Lacie's... I've also heard good reports from some colleagues about Seagate drives. Remember to get a 7200rpm + drive with a firewire 400 or better connection. Cheers Rounik

I have one and I'm very satisfied from it's performance. It needs an external Serial ATA PCI card so you'll need a tower Mac for this one. Hi fookmar I'm a big LaCie fan. Have had a 7200rpm 400 firewire for over 2 years now, it gets a real lot of use and has never missed a beat. Recently got a 5400rpm USB 2 portable for general storage and it too performs well. All the best, Bj
