Help to get a particular synth sound with Logic Pro 8
Hi all, I'm a beginner in music production. I have Logic Studio and I'm learning it use since a couple of month now - with helps from your video tutorials. I'm into House/Elecro music and I'm looking for a particular bass sound which seems to be very popular theses days. Here is a Youtube link where you will be able to listen to the last track of Sharam (Deep Dish) called "Get Wild": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvxCcYSGdfQ The lead bass sound is exactly what I'm looking to programm into Logic. My question is: is it possible to get this sound with a Logic synth plug-in or would you suggest me a goog third party plug-in (I'm actually looking to buy Arturia Jupiter 8V or NI Massive) Any suggestions?? Thanks for your help!

I think you should be able to achieve that sound using Logic's built in instruments and plugins or at least get very very close! Cheers Rounik

Hi Rounik, Thanks for your reply. I of course prefer to use a logic instrument. I've done a lot of try without succes. Any advice you could give to me? Cheers, Jerome

Hey Jerome, I'd start by playing with Sculpture and using one of the presets like Resonant bass, hollow bass or wood pick bass. Layer it (place the same region on a different track with an instrument like the ES2 and use a preset like Hard Noise or Tri Bass lower the sustain and release on Envelope 3. You could also check out the ES1. adding a few effects like a short reverb or even a slap back reverb setting on the enverb might do the trick When you find something that sounds good remember to save the channel strip setting so that all your instrument and plugin settings on that track are saved. Also, do check out the ES2 Tutorial: http://www.macprovideo.com/tutorial/Logic206 and the Sculpture tutorial: http://www.macprovideo.com/tutorial/sculpture Will help you understand these two amazing synths a lot! Let us know how you get on, or if you have any more questions. Cheers Rounik

Easy. That sound is very characteristic of FM synthesis. In fact its quite common and may even be a preset on a DX7, not sure though never owned one. You can very easily get this sound by using Logic EFM1 synth, which is the in built FM synth. If you like these sorts of sounds, i'd highly recommend Native Instruments FM8, which is pretty much the definitive FM software synth. I just got it a few months back and it's unreal. Moog is more analog subtractive (never used it though), while massive is much more of an industrial sound (also have it, it's great but not for these sorts of sounds).

Hi DJMiller, Since you told us you are a beginner in music production, I thought I'd give you a hand and I programmed a little loop to get you started. The bass sound is the first track. You can download the project here : http://www.sendspace.com/file/myys0y And just the bass appleloop here (It's a green appleloop so it's possible to use it on software instrument track) : http://www.sendspace.com/file/a0fpd7 If you're into electro/house music, you should really check out this tutorial by Olav Basoski. It's really worth it! http://www.macprovideo.com/tutorial/prodElectro Take care!
