    Mainstage I/O Buffer Size
Heh Rounik, mpvheads, What's up? I'm having a blast with my PCR-300 and Mainstage:) I haven't set it up live yet but am gonna do that very soon:) I have an "I/O Buffer Size" question: What is a good I/O Buffer Size to use with Mainstage? I have a MacBook 13' 2.2 GHz processor, 2GB memory, version 10.5.6, 120GB internal harddrive, 325GB external harddrive. Right now I have the I/O Buffer Size at 128 samples. I'm watching Bill Burgess's tutorial, and he says use a fast buffer size (eg. 32) if you have a fast computer, and use 1024 if you have a slow computer. I'm just wondering what I should be using with my system? Thanks man. Jodie

Hey Jodie, Glad to hear you're enjoying the PCR-300 & Mainstage :) I would add to what Bill Burgess rightly says that it depends on your specific system. It's difficult to say what is good for you. The reason for this is because some musicians find 128 fine for recording / playback and others find it causes too much latency for their playing style. It's such a relative concept! The trick is to find the lowest setting that won't cause cracks and pops in your audio while allowing you to play live. Best to try each setting, see when your mac is under too much strain (when the cpu meter is peaking or you hear the peaking ! :) and adjust the i/o buffer accordingly. Cheers Rounik

Heh Rounik, OK man. Gotcha:) I'll try different buffer sizes, but I think 128 is pretty good:) Thanks man. Jodie p.s. How can I send you an MP3?

Heh Rounik, Here is the link to a song I just finished mixing. It's called Funky Monkey. Tell me what you think; I mean, what needs improvement? Thanks. Jodie http://www.sendspace.com/file/9ze56y

Hey Jodie, Nice track. First, if you don't mind anyone downloading the mp3 then I will leave your post as it is. If you would prefer that others cannot download it, let me know and I'll delete your post. In the future if you want to send a link privately, send it as a "private message" ;-) Anyways, the track is nice. The arrangement sounds good. I've listened to it on headphones. I don't feel qualified to give any "improvement" advice as I'm not very familiar with the genre. But, I think the level of the main vocals dominate the mix too much. Cheers Rounik
