Frequency Analysis View in Soundtrack Pro
hello there, I cant seem to get a frequency analysis view in soundtrack pro?? im aware of that spectrum view and 'analysis' options, but im looking for something similar to the cool edit/audition little black box with a graph of amp and frequency (and also estimating pitch) closest thing i can find is the multimeter but thats a bit crappy.... any help much appreciated! Happy New Year!

Try out the Channel EQ and turn on the analysis button and set the resolution to high. It's not quite what you describe but can be useful anyway. Rounik

Hello mate, do you have Soundtrack Pro or Soundtrack Pro 2? I don't think the frequency analysis tool was available in the first edition. Although it's not the same, Rounik is right in that you can use the channel EQ. If you have a specific problem frequency that you are trying to get rid off, create a band pass filter in the channel EQ and adjust your Q setting and center frequency to tune the carving. The analysis tool will also help you visually find the frequency you are trying to eliminate.

hey there...yeh got SP2 yeh im aware of all that stuff...im not so much wanting to get rid of anything as apposed to investigate the audio...for stuff like Csound...need a good big Frequency Analyzer to look at all or parts of a track. it seems that theres a bit of a gap in the mac market for a really good audio editor like soundforge or cool edit pro/audition...anyway thanks for the help!

Hey Cuurj I've seen a friend using Soundforge on his pc and would only put windows on my mac to use this app! However, I've found a few spectrum frequency app's/plugins. Some are free, some are standalone and some look very useful. I haven't tried any of these out - but will once i finish a project I'm working on. http://www.dogparksoftware.com/iSpectrum.html http://www.arizona-software.ch/audioxplorer/ http://www.faberacoustical.com/products/electroacoustics_toolbox/ http://www.vertexdsp.com/products_multiinspectorfree.html http://www.sonicvisualiser.org/ http://www.christoph-lauer.de/ http://www.klingbeil.com/spear/ http://www.audiofile-engineering.com/spectre/ If an audio editor is what you're looking for then as Yadj suggests, Bias Peak & DSP Quatro are popular on the mac. I've also found Waveeditor which looks v.nice: http://www.audiofile-engineering.com/waveeditor/ I'm not completely sure i understand what you want an audio editor to do that STP can't do (Logic and STP exceed my needs) - but do let us know if any of these app's go some way to helping your projects! Cheers! Rounik

ok for anyone who wants to know.... i am really impressed with sonic-visualizer. u can have multiple views of a file, with spectrograms, waveforms, etc. loads of scale, colour, etc options. and (for me) the best part is is gives the pitch and frequency of any part of the spectrogram you hover over.... i wen through most of the ones above and this seems to be the best...well the best free one in particular! So, anyone looking for a good audiofile inspector, id recommend it...
