Loading applications from an external drive
My computer’s internal drive is full. I would like to put some of my applications (Logic, FCP) on an external hard drive and run it off of that. Is this possible? If so, What should I do? How should I do it? Thanks, Kenny Q

Hi, It is always best to leave Logic and other applications in the "Applications" folder of your system disk. Mac OS X will only look for applications located in the "Applications" folder when doing software updates. If you need to save HD space, I suggest you move movies, photos and music files to an external drive. If you have lots of music in your iTunes library, you can save a lot of disk space by changing their location to an external HD (iTunes/Preferences/Advanced). Tell us if you need more info! Christian

Hi Kenny Q, I totally agree with Christian... leave logic and all other applications on your system disk and move 'other files' to external HD's. For example I have 3 external HD's (of various capacities) one for writing logic projects to, another for photos, movies, documentation, etc... and a third that is used only for system back up. I've been using this system for a couple of years and have not encountered any problems. Plus it helps keep 'things' organised and easy to find. Hope this helps... :) Cheers, Bj

Thanks, I just need a bigger internal HD (that won't happen until my 3 years Apple Care is over. 2 years from now) I also have my internal HD split (Bootcamp). I use a lot of Windows software as well. Kenny Q

I would also like to know where to find my Mac Pro Videos (I have many). I would like to move them to an external drive.

Hi Kenny, They are located by default in ~/Documents/NED. You can move them to an external HD and change the Download Folder in NED > Preferences. Take care! Christian
