    Stereo Spread vs. Spreader
Hi Rounik, everyone:) HAPPY NEW YEAR:) I have lots of questions for you this year:) heehee:) First question, what is the MAIN difference between the Stereo Spread plug-in and the Spreader plug-in? Domo (pronounced DOE MOE = "Thanks" in Japanese). Jodie

Hi Jodie, Happy New Year! The Stereo Spread (from the Logic Studio Instruments and Effects manual p.125): "extends the stereo base by distributing a (selectable) number of frequency bands from the middle frequency range to the left and right channels.: The Spreader (from the Logic Studio Instruments and Effects manual p.149): "effect periodically shifts the frequency range of the original signal in a nonlinear way, changing the perceived width of the signal." Basically, the Stereo Spread, from my understanding, gives you more control over the number of frequency bands and the frequencies that are "spread" across the stereo field and works in a more linear way than the Spreader. As the manual points out, do be careful not to spread low frequencies as this tends to detract from the energy from your speakers... Hope that helps ;-) Rounik

Heh Rounik, How ya doin man? Yeah, I read the manual and still wasn't quite sure of the difference. Are those 2 plug-ins mainly intended for individual tracks, or are they used on the Output channel in the final mix as well, or both? Thanks. Jodie

I have used the stereo spreader on output channels before (usually with quite a subtle setting) and on individual channels too, and I don't often use the spreader to be honest. No real reason for that... Try it out. At the end of the day, trust your ears :-) Rounik
