I'm trying to edit an audio track and cannot get a clean even edit. I read the manual about editing audio. It says it's easier to edit in the Sample Editor. It seems very difficult to do it there. I tried to do it in the arrange window using the scissors, cut, copy and paste. Cannot get it clean there either. Editing seems extremely difficult. Is it really that hard? Is there an easy way to edit. All I want to do is "cut and paste". Easy right? Thanks, Peter

Hi Peter, What type of material are you working with? What do you mean it is hard? What specifically is difficult about editing audio for you/this particular bit of audio? Are you trying to edit audio for a particular purpose, e.g. creating a loop? What is not "clean" about the editing? Lastly... ;) Have you turned "search zero crossings" on in Logic? Cheers Rounik

Hi Rounik, First of all I never heard of Zero Crossings. I just looked it up in the manual and maybe that will do the trick for me. O.K. I'm working on an arrangement of a song and I played a wrong chord in 2 spots that I want to replace by copying and pasting. I think I should be able to do this. I tried doing it in the Sample Editor and in the Arrange window. What I meant by hard is that I went to a spot that has the same chord and copied it. Then I went to the spot that has the bad chord and using the scissor tool, I cut out the bad chord and pasted in the good chord. The area I'm talking about is one bar. When I played it back I heard extra beats in there. I tried this a few times and got the same results. That's what I meant by it's "hard". I couldn't get it to sound like a smooth edit, "unnoticeable". The manual said it's easier editing in the Sample Editor, but it seemed harder. Could you explain the Zero Crossing in your own words? I hope you understand my explanation here. By the way I make copies of the original and experiment on them, not the original. Thank you for you time. Peter

Hi Peter, If you've got the Logic 101 tutorial I'd really recommend checking out the the first 2/3 section especially 25 - Search Zero Crossings. Try this out. Zoom in to sample level (really really close) on a waveform in the Arrange area. You'll notice the waveform undulates... like a wave! It goes above and below the "zero line". If you cut the waveform anywhere other than where it meets/crosses the "zero line", then you will probably hear clicks and pops. Turn it on in the local menu Audio > Search zero crossings so Logic will only cut the audio waveform where it is crossing the 'zero line". Now if you join two bits of audio together you shouldn't hear clicks and pops. Either way, cutting and pasting chords from within one part of a region to another part of a region will probably sound less bad if you you the crossfade tool. Editing audio so it sounds smooth IMHO is an artform! It takes a little practice and good source material... What do you mean "When I played it back I heard extra beats in there."??? Maybe the way you played the chord that time will not match exactly to one bar for where you are trying to replace it? Cheers Rounik

Hi Rounik Yes, I have the tutorial 101 and I just read Search Zero Crossings. Very good. Thanks for reminding me. You know, I'm just lazy to read. I want to just plunge right in and think everything will just happen. I gotta slow down with this stuff. The extra beats I'm hearing might just be a pop or click since I'm really not sure because I haven't done any editing in LE8. I'm gonna give the zero crossings a shot and I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks again. Peter

Got another question. How do you stop the playhead at the end of a song? I was practicing a bounce and I noticed the playhead kept going after the song was over and of course the bouncing continued. Peter

Hi Peter, Use locators to set up a cycle range: 105 - setting up to bounce (Logic 101) you can also set the start and end points of the bounce in the Bounce window. You can also change the "project end" in the Transport Display (under the tempo). btw, it's great to start new threads for new questions :) Cheers Rounik
