Hi all- I'm using Logic 8 on a Macbook Pro running Leopard 10.5.8 I set up some randomizing ultrabeat tracks as per the TNT lesson on 'Crazy Beats'; whereby Ultrabeat basically just spews out random drum patterns by muting certain keys at a time. When I press play it works like a beaut and I get some really interesting funky grooves to improvise over. How do I record this ultrabeat performance?! All I want to do is export the ultrabeat patterns as an audio file. When I press play it sounds awesome, but if I export to .aiff the audio file has no sound in it. If I press the record button I don't get anything recording in the Ultrabeat tracks. Thanks in advance!

I used to do this in Protools using the BFD drum machine, I imagine it would work in Logic too using Ultrabeat: from the drum machine track create a send to a stereo aux or bus. create a new stereo audio track in the arrange page, but instead of having Input 1-2 as the input source, change it to the output of the bus you're sening Ultrabeat to. Then you can press record on the audio track, and play on Ultrabeat, it should record in real time. I hope this works, I'm wanting to try the same thing this weekend!

Hi the 'drum machine' uses real time objects (arpegiator) which means it only works when logic's transport is running. So when you bounce the track make sure you choose realtime NOT offline. Hamish's idea is also great. In fact it's my preferred option when bouncing randomization from the envirnment. Rounik

Thanks, changed bounce to realtime and it worked a treat! It's like I now have instant drummer- just add apreggiator. :) Is there a real difference if I used Hamish's idea though?

I just tried my way, it works great! just need to make sure you're not recording with a count in as Ultrabeat starts as soon as you press record. What sort of bouncing are you guys talking about? I'd like to try that way too

its ok I figured it out. it appears to give the same sort of results whichever way you use.

No thank you Steve, that lesson blew fuses in my tiny brain when I heard it on my computer! I had another thought: is there some way to trigger a change in drum pattern in ultrabeat? If you look at the bottom left in the ultrabeat arrange window (sequencer) you can change the built-in drum pattern; I wonder how we could send some arpeggiated MIDI data to change the patterns in the middle of the song?!?!?
