    EXS24 sample editor issue
Well, I chopped a sample on the arrange page, dragged it onto the ediotr page for the exs24, created a group and all of that stuff. When you go into the exs24, you can open up any sample that's been imported into it's own sample editor window. The problem is when I edited the region lenth or try to loop part of the sample, the settings are not sticking, meaning that after I preview my edits in the sample editor, when I press on my midi controller, it sounds like nothing was edited. I'm looking at what I justed edited in the sample editor, so that window is still open while I'm triggering the sample from my midi controller, and still sounds like I never edited anything. I can edit the sample in the sample editor, close the sample editor window, when I open that window back up by selecting that particular sample in the exs24, nothing was saved, therefor nothing has changed. Why are my changes not effecting the sampler instrument? I should not even have to save what my edits are, which I tried anyway. After I make my edits, my midi controller should be able to trigger it, but it's not.

Hi dwalu What versions of Logic and OSX are you running? Did you save each chopped sample as an independent audio file? (You can do this in the Audio Bin). Now drag these into the EXS24 Editor and it should behave as you wish ;-) Rounik

I'm running logic 9.0. I was running 9.02, but that and 9.01 don't load the exs24 samples correctly. I'm using snow leopard, the latest update of course which I think is 10.6.2 or something. Loading the samples are fine. If I save each individual chop as it's own audio file, that means there is no room for adjustments afterwards, which makes no sense to me.

Hi dwalu, What issue were you getting loading samples into EXS24 in 9.0.1 and 9.0.2? If you want to use the same audio file with different start points have you tried using the Create as Sampler Instrument feature in Logic 9? It's so quick and easy to do. Set the transient points where you wish the different sample start point in the Sample Editor and use the Convert to Sampler Instrument command. Alternatively, if that doesn't work for you... Try saving multiple independent copies of the same audio file (e.g. one for every key you want to map a sample to in the EXS24. Map one key per file. Now in the EXS24 editor you can set the start and end points for each key and adjust them later if you wish. Hope that helps Rounik

    Re: EXS24 sample editor issue
I was having issues loading samples into 9.01 and 9.02. That's why I went back to 9.0. I can easily chop up a sample into different regions and load those regions into the EXS. The problem I have is if I realize that want to adjust one of the regions startpoints, by opening up it's own sample editor window from within the EXS, it will not let me adjust the start and stop points. It seems that you can only do it if you save those regions as it's own individual audio file before loading it into the exs. I guess because all of the chopped up regions share the same audio file. I hate that because it's very limiting because even if you create audio files from sliced regions and then put them into the exs, if you realize that your starting point of one of your audio files was started too late, then you can't adjust it to start earlier because all that audio information before that starting point does not exist anymore in that audio file because it was chopped off when you converted that region into an audio file. That sucks! Unless you know of a way around that, because editing sliced loop mistakes will be more time consuming than it has to be. It doesn't even have to be a mistake, you just want to experiment by adjusting the start and stop points with having to take the time to go outside the exs onto the arange page, open up that region again, adjust the start and stop points and load it back into the exs again.

Hi dwalu, Yes, I understand your issue... but one of my suggestions in my previous post was aimed exactly at that... Let's say you have a 2 bar drum loop and you wish to assign each hit to a different key/zone in the EXS24. Let's say there are 8 hits in total... No problem. duplicate the original file so you have 8 independent copies. drag each file to it's own zone in the EXS24 editor. Adjust the start and end points for each zone. Done! btw, Logic 9.1 has just been released with a host of bug fixes and some improvements. You can download it by using 'Software Update'... seems to have fixed the loading of contiguous samples into EXS24 too! :) Rounik

I guess I can do that. I wish I didn't have to. Thanks for the advice.

Hey, I was having the same problem as you are and just discovered the solution and was so overjoyed that I'm creating accounts to share it with everyone! So I don't know if this will work with you, but the problem I had was that my sample rates were not what logic wanted, which seemed to be 44.1 So drag your samples into the audio bin and then convert them to 44.1, and then all your sample editor changes should stick!

Hi Temp, Welcome to the forums and thanks for sharing the tip. One question. What is/was the sample rate of your project set to? Thanks R
