Beat-mapping audio & odd time signatures
Hullo. I'm grateful for all the knowledge given out here. Beat-mapping audio has really helped me. Steve H, in his videos, is right about it being enjoyable.Up to now, though, my songs have been 4/4. I have recorded an acoustic rhythm guitar. It runs along in different patterns of time-signatures. It sounds very flowing & has the right ' feel' but the click side of things has baffled me. How do I beat-map this ? I can count the time and know where the changes are but I don't know how to tell Logic , so that I can see the result in the transport bar and the bar ruler. Before knowing about Beat Mapping..I did use just the transport/bar ruler to write where the changes were..but it was too mechanical to play along to.. Is there some basic way of going that I am missing ? Thank you again.

Hi Logicluvva, I would use the beatmapping techniques from Steve H's videos and then as you're going through the performance you'll need to tell Logic where the time signature changes are. i.e. place your playhead on the bar/beat and then type in a new time signature - or use the Signature Global Track... It will be quite a manual task, but you can then accurately beat map the performance at least. :) Rounik

Thanks, Rounik. I was also wondering if a combination of beat-mapping and auto-beat mapping was possible, mix 'n' matching within the same arrangement? I'll give it all a go. And...after adding the drum parts...to go back and erase the source guitar track and record a 'fresher' one over the drums. So even though the performance would differ , it gives more of an update on the overall ' band' feel. Is it ok to delete the source after I've mapped it ? ( I'm thinking of the way a kick drum sidechain would need the 'invisible' kick to stay there in order for it to be heard ). I don't want all the mapping to disappear. I apologise if I sound confused. It's cos I am. I am absolutely adoring Logic but will keep this name for now : )

Hey Logicluvva, You can delete the original region if you want. Might be good to keep it. And simply mute it and hide it or... Better still, save a copy of your original project so you can revisit it if needs be. :) Rounik
