I wonder if anyone can help me with this. I'm learning Logic 8 and ran into an interesting problem. I really like a certain Jam Pack Rhythm Section Apple Loop called "12-8 Jazzy Drumset 01"---but I hear it in 3/4 instead of 12/8. This means that the accent which Logic interprets as the second beat (dotted-quarter) of a 12/8 bar, I hear as being an accented UPBEAT to beat 2 of a 3/4 bar, and so forth, in a kind of New Orleans vibe. At any rate, I would like to get Logic to re-interpret the loop the way I hear it, so that I can build a song over it in 3/4. "Adjust Tempo Using Region Length and Locators" doesn't help--and besides, it's not the tempo I want to change, just Logic's interpretation of where the beats fall. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi Bob & welcome to the forums, If you were using Logic 9 you could use the "Convert to Sampler track" feature and then play / program a sequence the way you'd like to interpret it fairly easily: [url]http://www.macprovideo.com/blog/logic-pro/howto-convert-sampler-track-logic-9[/url] You can do the same thing in Logic 8, but without using the automatic Transient detection and "convert to sampler track" features by manually cutting the loop's hits into different regions, converting each region into new audio files and either: - create a new sampler instrument in the EXS24 so you can program a new sequence in the Piano Roll or - place the new regions in the Arrange area manually. Thanks so much. As I said, I'm just learning Logic, so this is a challenge....but I have divided the loop up into what I want to be quarter notes (there are six of them, as it's a two bar phrase). Actually, I just figured out one way to do it, but I'm not sure why it worked! I converted each of my six regions to AIFF files, and when I did, they sped up/shortened to exactly the length of a quarter note in the arrange window. I have no idea why they did that, but once I saw that they did, I simply shuffled them all back together, chose "Audio>View in Apple Loops Utility" and converted the whole thing to a looping Apple Loop in 3/4. When I then dragged that file in from the Bin to an audio track, it worked perfectly in 3/4 at any tempo. Can you help me understand why the regions behaved this way when I converted them from CAF to AIFF format? Thanks again!

Hi Bob, Nice solution! It could well be a bug with 12/8 apple loops in the CAF format... I can't explain why that would happen though ... I like your solution it's more geared to what you want to achieve... but my workarounds above. - Split the apple loop as you did into 6 regions. - In the Bin select all the regions and choose Audio File > Copy/Convert to new audio files. - On a new Software instrument Track instantiate the EXS24 Sampler. - Click on the "Edit" button in the EXS24 to view the Sampler Instruments window. - Choose Zone > Load Multiple Samples and select your 6 audio files. - Save the sampler instrument and in the Piano Roll insert the notes to correspond with the Sampler Instrument you just made. The problem with this method is you're pretty much stuck at the project tempo when you created the Sampler Instrument. It sounds to me like your method works best for what you want! :) R
