Yes. To be clear, if you have a Logic 9 *upgrade* (which upgrades Logic 8 to Logic 9) as opposed to a "full install, retail box of Logic 9" (no previous installation of Logic required) then the answer is "yes".

Actually... the Logic 9 "upgrade" is a full version of Logic. SO you don't need to install Logic 8 first. Simply install from the Logic 9 discs and then either have your XSkey or serial numbers for Logic 8 and 9 handy. Cheers R

But... But... But... I bought an upgrade version (it cost $199 instead of the "full install" which was $499) and it required that Logic 8 was already installed on my system. Are we talking apples and oranges? Or apples and pears (in which case I'll get me coat, traverse them in the downward direction and leave the premesis.) : - )

Odd... I'm pretty sure the Logic 9 upgrade does not require Logic 8 be already installed on the system. I did this recently on a new MBP back in April. But... you do need the Logic 8 serial number. The Logic 9 upgrade comes with the all full content, all apps in full and that kind of malarky. No leaving the premises for you Mr Ski! Stay and chat :)

Ah, the serial number. OK, that could be it indeed. I mean, there's got to be some difference between the $199 and $499 versions. Maybe having previously purchased Logic 8 is the key here. In any case, I think that the OP should consult the installation instructions that came with his L9 package. I'm sure it'll say right there what the real deal iz.

Yup. If you have an XS Key from a previous version of Logic you can stick it in and all should go smoothly - or if you don't or prefer not to unearth it simply have the serial number for Logic 8 and the serial for Logic 9 to hand during the install process. It'll work smoothly :)

We're talking the $199 (or £199) upgrade version?

Yup. The upgrade version - not full version. Haven't bought one of those for a long, long, long, long time ;-)
