Hi Tim
You can actually get pretty close with the ES2 by following along with Olav's Ableton vids.
A lot of the ideas are exactly the same, and the ES2 can do everything the Ableton synths can do - just a few differences.
For example, its harder to make the initial pitch modulation of a drum hit, which Olav makes it look so easy to do in Ableon. I found a rough workaround by using envelope 1, but it is not quite the same.
Having said that, I have managed to use the ES2 to make my own versions of every sound that Olav makes, and to my ear they sound pretty good.
I cna see form your other thread that you are working through the ES2 vid with Steve H, so I suggest you have a go with creating your own sounds first and learn how to use the differnet modulations in the ES2, then have another crack at 'traslating' Olav. I think the basses would be a good place to start.
get back in touch when you start on a sound and I'll dig out what I did.
Cheers
Hamish
