Bouncing Virtual Synth
Hi again I want to bounce a virtual instrument track to audio and have it show up in the arrange window . I want to do this to save CPU . I did it a couple of months ago , but forgot how to do it . Looked in the manual but can't find the right page .

If you want to bounce the track only to save CPU, you can just hit the "Freeze" button (the one that looks like a ice crystal icon) in the track header. If it's not available in your track header, control-click (or right-click) the track header and choose "Configure Track Header..." If you want to record a software instrument to an audio track do the following : 1-Insert a soft inst on a track and send its ouput to a bus. 2-Select the bus in the input of an audio track. 3-Make sure the audio track is "record enabled" and select the inst track. 4-Hit Record and play the inst (or let play the sequence)... it will be recorded as an audio file.

Hi there is another way to do this which would work in Logic 7 as well. (you haven't specified which version of logic you are running)... 1. insert a soft synth onto a soft. inst track. Output should be 1-2. 2. solo the desired soft inst. track. 3. Go to File>Bounce... 4. select desired audio output file options and check the box "add to Audio Bin". 5. Click OK/Bounce 6. Open the audio bin and drag the resulting audio file into your arrange. The freeze button option that Christian described is a great option but recording via a bus is (i think) only possible in Logic 8. Rounik

You're absolutely right Rounik, recording a soft synth via a bus is only available in Logic 8... Although there was a noise gate trick you could use in Logic 7 to record soft synth via a bus, using the Noise Gate monitoring function. I've talked about this in this thread : http://www.macprovideo.com/forum/logic/logic-pro-express&id=1923&sid=#3949 That was a cool trick I've used a few times to record soft synth directly as audio. Maybe it can still be of use to some Logic 7 users ? Thanks Rounik!

Thanks Christian! I've never thought of using the noise gate monitoring function to record the source! How brilliant! I simply love the way Logic has so many workarounds to it's different functions. I'm gonna try this one out for fun! Cheers Rounik
