Hard drive space
Using OSX 10.4.10 on an eMac. My hard drive capacity is about 76 GB. When selecting my hard drive icon and choosing Get Info, it says I've used 72 GB and have 4 GB left. All my files, folders, and applications together only total 25 GB. So where's the other 47 GB?

It's possible that you have a very big invisible temp file somewhere. Use this app : http://www.id-design.com/software/whatsize/ It will help you to find the faulty file(s) by sorting them by size. This process can take a long time... When the scan is completed, hit command-3 and sort "File" larger than 1 GB. Tell us if you find anything above 1 GB...

Although the first tip is more likely, also look at Disk utility under Applications/Utilities. Make sure the whole drive is partitioned. If you have a partition that only takes up part of the drive that could be the problem. Note/Warning: Repartitioning may DELETE everything on your disk. Don't save changes unless you know what you are doing & have your data backed up if desired. There is likely a 3rd party application that may resize without reformatting. send email to cgmug@cox.net if you find you need this + reply here also. you can save a few extra megabytes by running MonoLingual to remove language files you'll never use. http://monolingual.sourceforge.net/ Good luck. I'm really disappointed to hear that, because 64 bit is a major deal and equals computing power, and I don't want something old. But is this unique to Apple? If I had bought say a Athlon 64 dual core processor instead of my MA590 iMac, would I then truly have this 64 bit power? I kind of recall now Jobs saying something about how the iMAC is the only one with "true" 64 bit. __________________ ahsan
