Managing the Virtual Soundstage in a Mix
Mr Master Key writes: >> How does one arrange instruments "on the stage" in a 3D space? Hi - You'd create a virtual soundstage with a combination of panning (for left-right orientation of tracks) and the use of reverb & ambience (more ambience can make a track seem more distant). Some mixers might even set up multiple reverbs with different spaces -- early reflections, small space, larger space -- and dial up different blends for different tracks; this might enhance the effect of some tracks seem slightly more distant and others closer in the virtual soundstage.
