I have the same question...I posted this question on a new thread I'm currently working Logic Pro on a G5 desktop computer..thinking about buying the new iMac8 2.8 Ghz with 2 gig ram. Will this computer with its 2.8 Ghz Duo extreme handle Logic 8?

This iMac would be used 99% of the time running Logic. I typically run anywhere from 15 to 20 tracts at one time by the time I have completed a project (all with compression, reverb, EQ, exciters.) Many are audio/vocal/guitar tracks and the rest are either drum loops and sequencer tracts. With all of this happening at the same time, you believe that 2GB of ram will not suffice? and that 4GB is the way to go to avoid choking. Thank you for your help and advice. I really appreciate it.

Thank you again for the great info. Interesting, the iMac comes with 2 GB of ram, but, if you want to upgrade to 4 GB, there is an additional charge of $700. You would think that Apple would allow a credit for the 2GB. What would you do to keep the cost down? I agree, the 24' iMac that I saw was jaw-dropping. I have been a PC user since the days we typed in our DOS commands, I stayed away from Apple because it was uncomfortable to me...now that I have been working on this music project thru my friends' G5..no question..Apple has it over a PC. I'm sure many other PC owners will see the light and switch over. I just wish I would of bought shares in Apple when it was $6 bucks a share not too long ago :)

In Logic 7 I ran into the same problem..why is the bass off? We are the keybords off? I looked at quantize and it was at 1/16.. by setting at "0" all was back to normal and "on time & tight". Don't know yet about Logic 8..but I would imagine it's the same thing.

Will Apple allow Logic 8 to be installed on more than one computer? For ex: I will be working on a project in two different locations..My computer has Logic 7 and the new iMac 24" will have the full "brand new" Logic 8 installed. Will I be able to take the new Logic 8, install it in the iMac then install it to upgrade the Logic 7 on the first computer? or will I have to buy a separate Logic upgrade for the first computer? I think I know the answer to this one :)

Hi JF, If the one computer is a G5 and the Logic 7 was registered under another name..will that cause a problem when I go to install under my name? And yes, only one computer would be used at any time. Thanks for your help!

It would be nice if Martin could add a chapter in the Logic 8 Tutorial showing us how to transfer complete projects from LOGIC 7 to LOGIC 8 including all settings/effects/audio/midi ect. How will these projects show up in LOGIC 8? Will all the tracts be created by LOGIC 8 automatically?.... and then show all the information/settings as it was in LOGIC 7? It does sound like any changes made to a project in LOGIC 8 that came from LOGIC 7 will not be able to be copied and transferred back to my friends computer running LOGIC 7...I believe the answer is... he will have to upgrade to 8 in order for us to transfer back and forth..am I right?

I cannot seem to find a simple explanation/tutorial on how to transfer a complete song project from Logic 7 (on friends computer) to Logic 8 (on my computer). I've tried it with 2 songs using a LaCie backup drive..but I find the audio files (guitars, vocals are missing. My friend will be upgrading to Logic 8 (all the songs were created on his computer w/Logic 7) and we want to be able to record at his house then copy the song..bring it up to my computer...work on the song...then copy...take it back to his computer. I know that until he upgrades to Logic 8, the transfer will only go one way to Logic 8 and not back to Logic 7...that's OK..but then it will be back and forth from Logic 8 to Logic 8. We have used the drum loops, Rhodes, B3, lots of live vocals and guitar tracts. I know there is a simple way to accomplish this..just need an friendly expert out there who could explain this operation to some of us out there who are trying to do the same. Thank's in advance!
