So far Logic X is AMAZING! :-) Before X came out, I was trying to make a talking bass in logic 9 using automation and the channel eq. Now, using smart controls I'm able to set one knob to control 3 bands of the channel eq and have each one start at the formant frequency of one vowel sound and end at the formant frequency of another. I can then assign that to the mod wheel on my keyboard for a really awesome talking effect. What I'm wondering is how the midi routing works with smart controls and track stacks. What I'd like to do is set up a midi modulator plugin to either use the LFO or the envelope filter to control my newly created talking bass smart control knob. So far, I'm not able to set up midi fx on the main track of my track stack, I have to do it on one of the synths. I tried using "learn" to assign a knob on my keyboard, then finding that midi control number and channel and setting the output of the modulator plugin to that. Unfortunately I haven't had success so far. Any help would be much appreciated!

Ah, I see. Thanks for the reply. Here's another question. Would midi fx work with an external midi device? And would it be possible to re route the midi output back to the input of another channel with a physical cable so that Logic thinks you are turning a knob on an external controller but in fact it's the midi modulator? It sounds like it might get a little complex, but the sound design possibilities would be endless if you could use the LFO or envelope filter to control any parameter of any plugin like you would with an external midi controller.

I've been busy building some diffusers for a new room I'm setting up, but I'm definitely going to have to spend some time getting creative with external instruments and midi routing. I'm really loving the new features in Logic. I'm glad they decided to come out with some unique innovative new features instead of just catching up on things they have been missing like some DAWs that won't be named...

I'm building a complex sampler instrument of a drum kit. I have hundreds of samples of drum hits, and I want to have them fade out. I can select them all and then change the fade out in the inspector of all the regions, but when I save as new audio files the fades don't get saved. If there is a way to do this, please let me know. Since I haven't found a way to do that yet, I'm also wondering if there is a fast way to select the last 500 ms of an audio file in the sample editor so that I can use key commands to quickly fade out each sample that way. Any help or ideas I may not have thought of would be much appreciated. I also own a copy of Pro Tools 10, Presonus Studio One, and Audiofile Engineering Triumph. I haven't spent as much time searching, but if there is a fast and easy way to do this in any of those programs, I would be very happy to hear about it. Thanks -Aaron

Thanks for the response! The way I am saving them as new audio files is right clicking and then under convert, clicking convert to new audio file. That seems to be the only way I have found to save multiple regions as audio files. When I try any kind of bounce (bounce in place, bounce and replace all tracks, bounce regions in place) , all the regions end up in one big file instead of being bounced into individual files for each region. I do have soundtrack pro though, I will definitely look into that. Thanks for the tip! :-)

Ok, I feel like I've looked everywhere and can't find an answer to this. I'm trying to make an m4v video file like what you would find when you download a movie from itunes and it has stereo, and surround sound options. I have been able to make a .mov file with stereo pcm and surround pcm using logic pro and importing the movie and exporting audio to movie in my surround session, but keeping the stereo track that was already on the movie. But what i need is stereo .aac and surround .ac3 in a .m4v file. I brought the above .mov file into compressor and used the apple tv setting with the "include 5.1 " box checked. I submitted it and it failed (failed: 3x crash service down) but it gave me a .m4v-1 file (not sure why the -1 is there) that had stereo, but no surround sound (I checked using qt pro 7 show movie properties). It also gave me a separate .ac3 file. I tried this with another .mov file with only the surround sound mix and the same thing happened. also, it seems that no matter what aspect ratio i set apple tv to, it takes my 720x480 file and makes it square. here are the specs of the source video I'm trying to convert: Apple MPEG-2 Camcorder Video, 720 x 480 (853 x 480), Millions 16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz 16-bit Integer (Little Endian), 5.1 (L R C LFE Ls Rs), 48.000 kHz also, when compressor fails, it adds 3 files with a .m4vTEMPdataRef157800 extension but the numbers on the end change. If anyone has a solution to this I would be very thankful.
