Original topic post is from Minimizing noise floor in Logic (using M-Audio FW410)
Hi folks. This may not really be a Logic-specific question...
I've just been listening to a MIDI recording I began a while back, and in the quieter sections, when listening with volume over halfway up, I hear a distinct electronic buzz/hum. It's not audible while instruments are playing at a normal level; they seem to drown it out. It's only really bad if I have volume turned up full, which is almost never, but it makes me worry that someone listening on a better system (probably most pros) will pick this up.
I'm using a combination of Logic instruments and patches from my Korg Triton Extreme, connected to an M-Audio Firewire 410 interface. My suspicion is the FW410 is the weak link here. I also have an MBox Pro2, which when I swap that for the FW410, it seems quieter, or at least the irritating stuff only exists in a higher, smaller range (9/10), whereas it becomes audible at around 5 or 6/10 on the FW410. It also doesn't appear on all my recordings, which makes me think I've been inconsistent with my levels, and just need to get those louder in the first place. Anyone have any ideas or experience with other interfaces that might be quieter?
As well, in the recordings with this problem, are there ways to eliminate the noise after the fact? I have access to a bigger ProTools system right now, which may have noise reduction plug-ins.
