In common usage, denominator values are 2, 4, 8, 16 etc. If you want multiples of 3, you could choose a 4/4 metre and simply use tuplets, ie groups of 3 or 6. You could also try a compound time like 6/8 or 9/8. This is pretty easy to do in Logic. Regards - Colin

I have bought a few Logic tutorials and enjoy them very much. What I really would like is access to the presets which are used by Steve Horelick and other instructors, particularly if the sounds have been created by the instructors. It is often very educational to be able to load presets in one's own songs and fool around with the exact same settings. (The Sculpture tutorials in particular, and I'm sure, the new ES2 stuff). It would be really simple (I have no doubt) for MacProVideo to have a special presets page or link related presets to titles already purchased. This would add extra great value to already great products. How about it????? Regards - Colin

To add to this: Since Logic 8.01, there is an option to hide/show the Transport Bar. Go to the local View menu and just check/uncheck [Transport]. This is particularly useful if you use more than one Arrange window and don't want lots of Transport Bars taking up screen space. The concept of 2 or more of the same type of window can also be applied to the Piano Roll. I often have screensets with 2 Piano Rolls, each one showing a different type of Hyper Draw data. So, if I have control 7 (volume) data as well as Modulation for example, I set one Piano Roll window for each. This allows me to easily edit the Hyper Draw data of each type. Regards - Colin

Steve, I quite agree with your comment on single windows. Logic's trump card is screensets and the ability to have endless layouts of one's work at the click of 1 or 2 keys. The tips re tools and zoom settings are good.

In tut #50, Steve shows how to save and recall zoom levels via key commands (something I've been using for years and is indeed a great tip). I have a few criticisms though: He instructs the user to uncheck (ie switch off) 3 system-wide key commands in [Keyboard and Mouse] System prefs. These are Expose commands but it seems that Steve has different defaults from those normally configured by Apple. The default OSX shortcuts (as far as I know) are: All windows F9 Application windows F10 Desktop F11 Steve had these as F1, F2 & F3 respectively - perhaps he manually reconfigured these at some time. He instructs you to uncheck (ie disable) these functions. In my view, this is really bad advice as these 3 Expose shortcuts are great time-savers. I use them all the time. Next, he instructs the user to use F1, F2 & F3 (plus cmd-F1 etc) for the zoom shortcuts. Fine, but he should have also told users that they may use ANY key combos they like which are currently unused. In fact, if users have the system defaults F9-F11 in use (see above), then there would be no need to lose the functionality of Expose at all. In my opinion, this tutorial is a mixture of really good and really bad advice. Sorry Steve.... Regards - Colin

If you see the kind of language used on many other forums, you'd know my post was quite "polite". Nonetheless, I concede that it may have been perceived as contra the rules of MacProVideo forums. I'd like to respond to a few of your points, not to cause further confrontation, but rather in an attempt to clear things up. But my original point still stands - your video shows that YOU had F1-F3 set for Expose (not F9-F11), hence you were required to disable them in order to use these keys in Logic. For anyone using the Apple defaults, this would not have been necessary.
