Hi guys, I've just been going through the vector programing section of the excellent ES2 video and I'm having a slight problem. I'm using Logic 7, and maybe that's why, but whereas the video shows 4 vector points, my ES2 is only showing 3. Any ideas? Cheers in advance Simon (London UK)

Hi Guys, 1. When writing drum parts with UB I favour using the piano roll over the built-in step sequencer. Now, I seem to remember, ages ago (L7) reading an article which described a way of displaying the drum names inside the piano roll editor (on the keys). Does anyone know how to do this? 2. If I record an audio part (say a guitar riff) and convert it to an apple loop I can then go into ALU and reposition the markers so that they line up with the beginning of each note. This in affect hard quantizes the notes to Logics grid, but should I then want to apply a swing or groove quantize to the loop, how do I go about it? Thanks in advance, Simon (London UK)

I'm also hoping that this title will include information on creating beats from scratch, but more than that I hope it includes some insight into bass programing in the context of the more progressive end of the genre. I'd be particularly interested in gaining an understanding of the ways in which artists like Squarepusher and Venetian Snares approach composition. I think DnB is far from being a spent force, and as it begins to absorb more influences from areas such as modern jazz and fusion I think it will become less a style of music to just get stoned to and jump up and down, and more a style to actually sit down and listen to. I'm also not that interested in the use of Apple Loops.

I downloaded this vid today and I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I am. It contains nothing that isn't already covered in Martin's existing videos (at their most basic level), and absolutely nothing that is specific to creating sounds or writing songs in the DnB genre. You'd think that there would be extensive work on how to create interesting and complex beats (after all it is DRUM and bass), or how to program the various types of bass sounds (Dub Step Wobble etc.) in the ES2, but no. Instead this guy just waffles on in a way that's faintly reminiscent of my aged grandpa while extolling the virtues of his various hardware synths and imparting no useful information. To cap it off the whole tutorial is based around a ropey old tune that seems to have completely missed the way DnB has evolved over the past 10 years. Generally I find Mac Pros vids to be of the highest quality and at times I don't know what I would have done without them but someone really seems to have dropped the ball on this one. There really is a markets for a concise and detailed tutorial on writing and producing contemporaneity Drum and Bass music, but this isn't it.

Bit strange how my one star rating hasn't been added to this vid. Does that mean that the star ratings aren't to be trusted?

It's strange that the general consensus of opinion seems to be that this tutorial is a total waste of time (and a sadly missed opportunity), yet it's still showing only four-star reviews. My one star review was never added for some strange reason. Has this happened to anyone else? Also the reviews that are shown seem rather fake. C'mon MacPro this isn't typical of your attitude towards your customers. P.S. every other vid I have purchased has been top notch (the Mastering Toolbox is excellent) but I really think you should dump this one and get someone who knows what they're doing to write it.

You know I'm not sure that I have seen a worse DnB tutorial. The irony is that there are a wealth of free tutorials out there, and most are significantly better. Fail. Epic fail.
