When recording audio tracks I get an intermitent sound which sounds a little like static (not like clipping). I've tried swapping out microphones, and cables, but still that little annoying static sound pops in every now and then . Mostly heard on quiet tracks. I'm using a mac book pro, with operating system Lion 10.7.4 - My audio interface is a presonus 1818VSL. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this issue. Thanks

Hi Gary: I have tried all inputs of the presonus, and it is definitely selected in the preferences audio menu. I have a 10 sec sample mp3, but can't seem to embed it here. I figured if you heard it, you may recognize what I am doing wrong... Thanks again, Graham (bonehead)

Hi Gary: When I record an audio track with the built in audio device I don't appear to get any static like clicking. I will contact presonus and see if they have any suggestions. Thanks for your help. I will let you know their reply... Graham

Hi All: I Have been through a frustrating ordeal. No matter what I tried, I always ended up with pops and clicks on my audio tracks when recording. I had a great administrator here in this forum who offered suggestions ( who I failed to get back to, when I said I would) in isolating this problem. So here I am now, as I thought this may help a few people out there. After multiple attempts contacting Presonus, I got lucky and found a wonderful Tech that solved my problem. The problem lies in a bug between the VSL interface and Macs core i7 processor. By eliminating the VSL software and using my Mac to run logic pro my problem has been solved. No more superfluous clicks and pops on my audio channel. What a concept; good clean audio. Gary was helping me with this situation. Thank you, and I hope this helps you.

When Bouncing a mastered file, what bit depth should I save it in? I watched Steve's mastering video, and he mentioned 16 bit was the CD standard. Does this apply if the music is going out mostly via online sales?

Hi Rounik: Am I sacrificing anything by going down to 16 bit, or is that the maximum bit depth that files such as mp3's are read at. Thanks Graham

Hi Redlogic: Thanks for the link. I just went to the site, and it seems that they don't want the bit depth edited. If I send them my original 24 bit depth file there is also no need to dither. Thanks again for the input. Graham

Hi everyone: I've been avidly working on putting out my own album, and everything seemed to be be going fairly well. When mastering one of my tunes I am noticing that when I have a solo instrument i.e Organ, it seems to be quashing the other instruments when it is at full tilt. Sounds to me like maybe a compression problem. The organ is an internal midi patch. the same thing is also happening from an external audio source. My trombone solo also quashes the other instruments. Anyone have any ideas on this subject. I'm using all logic plug-ins. inc - Multipressor,ad limiter. Thanks Graham

Thanks. I took the Multipressor off and it did remove the problem. I took the compression down when reintroducing the Multipressor back into the mix. I was thinking that I may not be starting with high enough levels from the original mix as I am trying to be aware of clipping. I also get a kind of distortion (although not a clipping distortion) in some of my masters. The ad limiter doesn't Seem to be set to high. I turn the gain up so that I have around a 6db fluctuation from -6db to -0.1. It is a jazz album, so I don,t want to squish it too much, but am still looking for a decent volume level. Thanks for your input Any ideas on how to get to optimal pre mastered mix volume levels. Graham.
