Hi guys, I am kinda new to Logic Express and have been working on some tracks which Ive kinda finished but VOCALS are proving to be a night mare for me. So stressed out! Each time I copy and paste a chorus vocal take for example, Chorus one copying the same take and making theat chorus two...The vocals seem to move in the time frame and are completely out. I try make sure that one vocal bar is only high lighted so that Im not moving a group of bars and even at that I still seem to stumble upon the next part of the song and the tracks have moved???? Then I also had a problem with effects, I used an EQ on an intro vocal to make it reverbed and a few other things, I used Track automation to confine these effects to this single vocal and then when I played back it worked, BUT my other vocals on a Completely different track had all changed their EQ, Delay settings, Im lost as to how this happened! I really wanted to make a go at music and now I feel like just giving up after a few months of this studio, everything goes wrong and I just can't seem to get any help any where.... So if anyone can help Id really really really appreciate it as Im going out of my mind with annoying problems!!!!! Thanks guys Shane Ireland

Im probably doing things backwards and causing my own problems through my own stupidity and lack of knowledge on Logic. But somethings you cannot learn through mistakes so Im in need of guidance on those things. Creating a back up track sounds like a good idea actually, Im using 4 Audio tracks in this case. Chorus, Ad libs, Verses, Harmonies. Again Im not sure what your asking about the real time on track automation. Control surface or Real time? Im only aware of one method!! I select the desired Eq or effect and manipulate one specific part of a vocal or highlighted section. Like wanting to put a re verb on a intro vocal for example..So I then use the automation to get a more specific reverb on that one part not the whole vocal track, just one part... Then I mess around with the low end, high end reverb and draw up the levels with the colured lines. Hope this makes sense to you!! I then put all the automation levels back to their original level after that highlighted vocal take so that its not effecting any other vocal takes on that track, so the other vocals aren't affected. Also you mentioned comp folders and flattening them?? Again Im lost!! Sorry about my lack of knowledge, I really am new to this. Hey no worries on the delay Im happy with any help and appreciate! Thanks for the link Il check it out and hopefully learn a good bit from it. I think Id be interested in the subscription that might be a wise investment for me with Logic. Yeah Ive been drawing the nodules, I thought this was the only way to make adjustments on Automation!! :) Another problem I noticed with strange timing movements that happen out of no where on tracks I hadn't touched is: When I play back and try fix the vocal takes back to their original place and readjust them, the automation Id also added on them is now also off. Its like the automations nodules are now working on a different section of my vocal take...I know its probably just something simple but for me I can't locate my problem or how Im messing them up. Ive checked out the automation options you suggested regarding touch and latch etc...I found all the parts you mentioned and tried it out but I didn't notice any difference of benefit I still had to draw them all in and the result was just the same really?? Again Im probably not following you correctly cos of my logic ignorance :) Or is that what your calling real time?? and the surface control is the faster easier method?? Im still tryna figure out the surface control !! And the shuffle mode still looking out for that! Thanks again dude appreciate your help

Ive been using my friends Logic here and there and have some basics of it, but his logic is old and dated. Ive recently bought a lot of studio equipment to get me started, Apple Mac, Monitor, Speakers, midi Keyboard, Mic, Inter face...So now I wanna hook up with Logic 9. But I need training on the basics, not specialized sections. Is there any point in my buying Logic 9 if there is no basic training??? Surely there are new kids coming up each year that wanna get to know Logic and get invloved and if so they would buy the latest version right but need training on the basics??? I know there are some books available on training but thats for older versions like 7 and 8.... Any help greatly appreciated :) Shane

(Im that uneducated) I would like the bundles but Id need to know more about each one as I come by it when using Logic, and with the price of buying Logic Pro 9 and 1 Tutorial its gonna cost a lot. Thats great Il check out the online option that maybe a good idea, The music I write is Chart music I guess, Im hoping to write for pop acts...so kinda like Timbaland/Red One vibe. Maybe after you hear them or judging by the music Ive told you Im hoping to make you can adive me on Logic Express or Pro. Ive been using my friends Logic Express 7!!! Oldskool! So this is why I now want to buy my own Logic but the updated version and be safe in the knowledge that there is basic tutorial for me to learn from!

Yep it appears that way man but I really don't know my way around Logic and the reason that song is Instrumental on my myspace is cos I just can't get the vocals right, levels are all over the place and its clearly cos Im NOT setting things up right before I start, instead Im doing it in bits and then forgetting where I am and then it never works, stressed! Plus all I get is Core Audio freezes and Ive increased the Buffer etc.. Yeah 101 sounds like it really will help, lots of discovery like you say and a good basic breakdown. And then the Pop Tutorial sounds like another good investment, you mention pro tools here though...is that not an entirely different software??? I was actually over in London last week whilst in Reading at a Wedding which was boring, I didnt know you ran courses like this I woulda gladly escaped the church for that! Ive a great idea, why don't You and Mtec come over to Dublin, give me a crash course on logic, Il supply the Beers and hook you up with a few Dublin ladies?? I think its a great deal hahaha. Rounik do you think Id be better of with logic Express or Pro, I hear alot of talk about Logic 9 being more beneficial to guitar players etc??? Its just Ive spent a fortune on all my equipment and I really dont wanna waste money. I know you've to sell sell sell but Id really appreciate it if you could adivse me on that cos Il be buying either way... Thanks man

Hmmm yeah Im sure it is better to buy Pro over Express just I was thinking that cos Ive got alot to learn with this software am I going in over my head with Pro as apposed to Express...But you make a good point! Does anyone know if Pro 9 comes with Melodyne?? Someone showed me a demo of it and I was quite impressed with it as perfect vocals are vital for then I read somewhere that Pro 9 was to come with this maybe???

Yea that's what I was thinking about Express Im sure its quite enough but then Il end up wanting to up grade either way and I think mastering is important, as well as compression and Ive read that Pro 9 has good compressor within the package?? Compression, Mastering, Recording Vocals are all things Id particularity like to be educated on as I feel Ive got the talent to write good music but not make it sounds professional and this is down to not knowing how to execute the above tools. Is Cue bass belonging to Apple?? I did consider that and Pro Tools. I think its best to stick with Logic, probably more universal than Cue bass and therefore more help on it?? Plus Im familiar with Logic somewhat. Ok my equipment: 19inch Monitor, M- Audio Fast Track Pro Inter face, Midi Keyboard "Midicontrol 2" from miditech", Extreme Isolation EX-25 Stereo head phones, AKG Perception 220 Mic, Apple Mini Mac OSX Version 10.5.8 1.83 Ghz Intel core 2 Duo 1GB Mem, Then mic stands, pop guards, nice desk :) Bought all of it from Thomanne. All Im missing is Studio Speakers right??? Do I need to buy an external compression unit??? Is there enough Mem on this mac?? No you don't come across as that, I was only messing with you, Im extremely grateful for all your help so far, its the first time since Ive got going that someones understanding where Im coming from so Nope!! I don't know much about loops to be honest, Ive always made up my own beats from scratch....maybe Im missing out but I always have the fear of sounding cheap and plastic if I use them.....but maybe their more than that and Im just being influenced by people commenting on songs saying "Oh thats just loops" nothing creative!! ??
