Thanks for joining in on this Christian Problem now solved-Realised it had to be an OS problem (other apps such as Techtool were also effected whereas other sound programmes were fine). I reinstalled the OS (X5.8), ran repair permissions and all is now fine. I'm guessing this all comes from installing a few updates last week (security update and quicktime 7.7) although I can't see why that should be an issue. As I said, thanks to all.
