    Canon VIXIA HV40
Hi every one. I am new to video and would like to ask you if the Canon VIXIA HV40 High Definition Camcorder will work with Final Cut 6 without file converting. If not, would you be so kind and recommend a camcorder that is under $1000 and would work with FC 6? Thank you Bal

The Vixia HV40 is. HDV based. So FCP gives you two options...capture native HDV (MPEG-2) or transcode to Apple Intermediate Codec. Because MPEG-2 is really a final deliver format and not an edit format, you will have to conform this footage to another format. However if you are going to DVD, DVD Studio Pro acanthus accept HDV upto cetain data rates. Personally I would look at AVCHD - still needs transcoding, but the compression algorithms are getting so much better that we are seeing 4:2:1 and 4:2:2 AVCHD versus 4:2:0 HDV.
