Why is FCPX crashing constantly?
Can anybody help me here? I just sold my old MacPro and bought a brand new iMac 27" 3,4Ghz, 16RAM, 2GB videoram, with a flash disk for software and 2Tb disk for files. Enough power to work smooth with FCPX. But it keeps crashing, again and again. I can work with it, but during one day of editing it crashes 20-30 times. Not good for my nerves! Any serious advice would be extremely apreciated! TEXT The order changes (images that were on top, are suddenly below other items), text dissapears, fonts change, etc. Weird things. I have never been so mad at a program, that I actually like a lot. I work with Lion. Thanks in advance! David

Does it crash on a specific FCPX project or in any project? Do you get an error report when it crashes? If so, can you post the error message up here so we can see what it may be?

Go to Digital Rebellion (dot com) and download the free "Preference Manger". Use it to trash FCP X's preferences safely and properly. Then relaunch FCP X. If the problem persists, one by one, highlight each Event and Project, and in the File menu trash the render files. Do not trash render files manually from the Finder. FCP X has to update the info about them in it's database. If the problem persists, open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities) and run the Repair options for all connected drives (ignore the verify functions). If the problem persists, move FCP X to the Trash. Open App Store, in the Purchased tab, click the Install button for FCP X. It will reinstall it for free. Worse comes to worse, buy Disk Warrior, boot from the DVD, repair the directories on all connected drives.

I'm also having problems since one day ago. When I've finished a movie, trying to export the rendering, FCPX crash with this message: Process: Final Cut Pro [243] Path: /Applications/Final Cut Pro.app/Contents/MacOS/Final Cut Pro Identifier: com.apple.FinalCut Version: 10.0.5 (200703) Build Info: ProEditor-20070003091000000~1 App Item ID: 424389933 App External ID: 8007636 Code Type: X86-64 (Native) Parent Process: launchd [139] User ID: 501 Date/Time: 2012-08-18 01:06:52.974 +0200 OS Version: Mac OS X 10.8 (12A269) Report Version: 10 Interval Since Last Report: 93731 sec Crashes Since Last Report: 94 Per-App Interval Since Last Report: 41749 sec Per-App Crashes Since Last Report: 5 Anonymous UUID: 8F55AC2D-742F-4C75-834F-CD11043ADA57 Crashed Thread: 38 com.apple.helium-render-queue-exec-unit-gpu Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x00000012636f9038 VM Regions Near 0x12636f9038: VM_ALLOCATE 00000002080f1000-00000002100f1000 [128.0M] rw-/rw- SM=ALI --> STACK GUARD 00007fff5bc00000-00007fff5f400000 [ 56.0M] ---/rwx SM=NUL stack guard for thread 0 I've tried the solution mentioned here. Delete all render file from events and Projects. But this doesnôt work at all. I've also repared permissions. I've tried to move the whole project with the files to a new folder through an duplication project. What can I do? I really appreciate your help because I've been editing for weeks in it. :( Thanks a lot

1st, never upgrade the OS in the middle of a project. And be sure you're on the latest version of all apps after upgrading to Mountain Lion. That is a kernel panic, that's not a normal app crash. Run Disk Warrior to repair the directories of all attached drives. Have that Mac checked by an Apple Store or Apple authorized service center. Something more serious than Final Cut is wrong with that machine.

Thanks for your quick answer! I've repair permissions and also I've tried with a FCPX uninstall and install and it's still happening I think that should be a matter of some of the videos. I've tried to relink all the videos used and 3 seems to be unaceptable. Manually, I've replaced and relink them into the project with a new import (these 3). Crash again during render. Now I'm trying to transcoding all of them ... any other idea? (my last option would be full OSX reinstall) The rest of app in the MBP are running without kernel panic or any issue. thanks again

Reinstalling the OS rarely is a fix. Get Disk Warrior and repair the directories of all your attached drives. If that doesn't fix a problem, reinstalling the OS won't fix it. If it's the same 3 clips having the same persistent issues, those 3 files are corrupt. "Maybe" if you use Compressor to transcode them to ProRes 422 again, that "may" fix it. Otherwise, you simply have 3 corrupt files. But a kernel panic would concern me about some hardware issue.

Re: Why is FCPX crashing constantly?
Crash report are useless to anyone but the programmers. Can you give me symptoms, what were you doing when it crashed, was is an app crash or kernel panic? And please start a new thread for each unique issue. For any issues with crashing, do these: 1- Download the free "Preferences Manager" from Digital Rebellion (dot com) and use it to quickly and safely delete FCP X and/or Motion 5 preferences. 2- If that doesn't do it, uninstall all third party plugins and try again. 3- If that doesn't do it, move FCP X and/or Motion 5 from the Applications folder to the Trash (don't empty the trash yet). Launch the Mac App Store, go to the Purchased tab, click the "Install" button. 4- If that doesn't do it, purchase and run Disk Warrior to repair the directories on all your hard drives.
