    Final Cut Pro X Crashing
I'm not sure if anyone in this forum would be able to help me. But my Final Cut Pro X app is crashing every time I open it (after a couple minutes of being open). Here is the report I get after it crashes (not the full report, it's too long, but the first part). Does this shed any light? Thanks in advance! Those reports only make sense to programmers. Can you give your hardware and software specs? Mac model, RAM, hard drive configuration, and how many Events and Projects you have in FCPX, and where are they stored?

iMac 3.4 GHz Core i7 OS X 10.8.3 8GB RAM I'm running Final Cut Pro X (10.0.8). I have three events and three projects. And they are stored in the default location on my computer (Movies folder). It crashes after a few minutes. This only started happening a few days ago. I literally haven't done anything different to my computer.

You may find better stability and performance by putting all Events and Projects on a secondary media drive. But here's what I'd try first. Go to Digital Rebellion (.com) and download the free app "Preference Manager". Use it to quickly and safely delete FCP X's preference files. The launch FCP X and see how it runs. If that doesn't help, go back to their web site and get the free app "FCS Remover". Use it to remove FCP X, BUT DO NOT check "Shared Content" in the FCP X settings for FCS Remover. Then launch the App Store, go to Purchases, and click "Install" for FCP X. If that doesn't help, I'm get a copy of Disk Warrior and repair all connected drives.

I'm having continual FCP X crashes, lock-ups and various problems with 10.7.5 on my 2010 MacPro and 10.8.4 on my 2010 macbook pro I7 I reinstalled the os on a new drive on the Macbook Pro and a new drive and 10.8.4 on my MacPro and still having the same issues. Occasionally I video display issues on both machines during lock-ups so I'm guessing it may have something to do with the dual NVIDIA GeForce GT 120s in the Macpro and the Intel 3000 video on the MBP. My solution was to instal a Windows 7 bootcamp partition and Sony Vegas 9 and enjoy a very stable operation, a better interface, better render quality and a broader range of codecs. Perhaps if Apple finally moves beyond a Beta stable version of FCP I'll give it another try.

Your stability issues are rare, and reinstalling OS X rarely fixes anything. There are many other issues that can effect your stability. How much of each drives total capacity is free space? Are you using a separate media drive, not the OS drive? What is the origin of your media files? I've taken many, many users from unstable FCP X systems to very rock solid systems in a few troubleshooting steps. As for Vegas being a better interface, that is totally subjective, not factual. Vegas does not in fact render better quality as all NLEs render the same quality, it is the code that determines the quality. Also, FCP X handles all the codecs Vegas and all other NLEs do. FCP X is far from beta at this point, as is the opinion of many, many professionals around the globe. You seem to have found a solution that works for you. But if you were ever serious about using FCP X, I'd be happy to walk through a system setup with you.

I would appreciate being walked through fixing my FCP X project that crashes each time I try to play it or doesn't load. I have a Mac Pro tower with 5 gig of ram, 2 x 2.66 GHz dual core intel xeon, NIVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT graphics card. My files for this project at on an external 2T HD with plenty of room available and the project resides on the Mac Pro in my movies folder. It was working fine until I got deeper into the editing and this is the first time ever that the software has crashed on this computer. I also use a laptop mac and it never crashed there. Can you help me get through this? I need to finish the project asap. Thanks, Greg

Be sure the external drive is either FW800 or eSATA. Which is it? You'll want 8GB RAM for real FCPX performance, seriously. I'd be sure both the Project and Event are both on the external drive. Better yet, use an secondary internal drive for media, Events & Projects for best performance.

HI BenB. I now have 13 gig of ram on my Mac Pro 1,1 using OS 10.6.8 I have 98 gig left on my system HD. I have transferred my Canon D60 files from the card to an external 2T HD, 7200rpm with plenty of space on it to one folder of course. When I try to share the project to a DVD, it crashes all the time. You suggested that I put the events and project in the same folder. So, this is probably so basic I'm afraid to ask how to do this. I see 2 folders on the external drive that say Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects which hold my files for the new project. I have imported media using Import folders as keyword collections since I don't want to put large copies on my computer...just leave them on the external HD for faster editing. Imported as Create Optimized media as well. How do I make sure the files are all in the same folder? I can't drag the FCPX events and project folders into the same folder because then the files are all unlinked. What should I do. The person at the Apple store suggested that I wipe my system and reload it again and put all the software back on not using the Time Machine option because that has the corrupted system on it? that will take a long time which I don't have. I look forward to hearing your suggestions. Greg

Adding to my previous post. My external HD is 800FW and the project and event folders both exist on the external HD. I went to file>post in finder thing and they appear there . I hope to hear from you soon for some suggestions. Thanks...Greg
