iMovie Scene detection when capturing and hot keys
Two questions please (this is on a new imac) : 1) I have scene detection turned on for capturing (using a XL2), but it doesn't seem to stop and split up the scenes. Does the scene detection only work when the time-code is broken - ie; when the machine is powered off and on? Does it detect when it is paused? 2) Is there a list of hot keys for editing like the RAZOR tool etc? Thanks in advance,

Hi netrate, Welcome to the forums :) What version of iMovie are you using? Here is an apple doc that might help: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA26528 Also, iMovie 08 AFAIK only creates new clips if there is a break in the timecode... So, you need to have timecode enabled on your camera. If, for whatever reason you don't have timecode on the footage there is an app I have heard about that can detect scenes from frame image data and not timecode: http://www.scene-detector.com/ Hope that helps, Rounik

Thank you for that - it is helpful. To answer your questions - I am not sure what version it is, the mac is the school's, so I only have brief moments to work on it. I need a manual of hotkeys for iMovie, that is the next step...

Hi netrate, To find out the version in iMovie go to the iMovie menu > About iMovie: The latest version (iMovie '09) has just been released, so it is likely you'll have iMovie '08 if your school bought it within the last year or so. You can find all the iMovie '08 hotkeys in the Help menu: or here: http://www.apple.com/support/imovie/shortcuts/ Cheers Rounik

Ok, Here is the version 10.5.6 of Imovie Now, here is the problem - it is still not recognizing the SCENE when capturing. We are using an Canon XL2 and have turned the time-code on. In the preferences of iMovie, I have turned on the scene detection. When I capture it, it creates only one tile, even though we have paused it and in some cases turned the XL2 off and on. What should I be looking at here to fix this issue?

Hi netrate, 10.5.6 is the version number of the Operating System (OSX Leopard) not iMovie. Please let us know the version of iMovie... I imagine it may be one of the following: iMovie HD 6 or iMovie 7.x.x (iMovie '08) Thanks Rounik

It is a new computer, so I assume it is the newest version, but I will have to wait until tomorrow to find out for sure.
